does anyone knows which particular model of ridgid vacuum cleaners do have a diffuser? from what i saw on the 12gallon ridgid vacuum cleaner, there is no diffuser but there are 2 big holes on the cover. one for the suction hose and the other one for what?? the owners manual page 6 says its a blower port. so how do you cover that hole if youre using your vacuum for suctioning? isnt there a diffuser? i heard the 9gallon is also the same..

On my vac (not a RIDGID) that port is where the exhaust exits the vac, I would not want to plug it up. I suspect your vac will be no different. There is an accessory muffler (is that what you mean by diffuser?) available for some make vacs, don't know if RIDGID offers one but they are pretty much universal as long as the port size is the same.

Maybe this is what you have in mind. Please take a look. It should work with must Ridgid drum style vacs as long as they have a 2-1/2" (approx) diameter exhaust port.

My 16 gal came with a diffuser that looks pretty much like that muffler but without the foam in it.

The blower port is just where the air is exhausted. Obviously while you're using it as a vacuum, the air has to go somewhere right? So it shoots out the blower port. The diffuser just redirects it in all directions so you don't have a blast of air shooting straight out of it.

Yeah... it's not a muffler until they slap some foam in it. :)
