old stanley corrugated hand planes

I had a question regarding those old stanley corrugated hand planes. The corrugated ones that were typically used on resinous woods like pine, could I still use them on the hardwoods? Or would it be ideal to obtain one with the regular flat sole?

The corrugated ones work just fine on hardwoods as well as softwood. Jim

Jim is correct.
The reasoning behind the corrugation was that there was less material to create drag so the plane would be easier to push on any type of wood. Another trick is to use paste wax on the plane (also helps keep rust at bay) or keep a stick of paraffin handy and run an "S" down the sole when it gets hard to push. The wax will not effect your finish as it does not transfer.
