Just today my saw started acting funny. It takes an extra second for the blade to get fully up to speed, kind of like something is not engaging completely. And then when shutting down the brake does not stop it immediately. It has a lag time while stopping, taking an extra 1-2 seconds to stop the blade. Anyone experienced this before?? Is it repairable?
Thanks

What miter saw do you have? If it's a Ridgid, is it a grey Emerson built or an orange TTI?

check your belt if you have one.

This is the MS1250LZ, the orange one from HD. It was purchased in July of 2005. The manual talks about if the brake does not stop the blade that there may be an issue with the brushes. WOuld this cause a problem with a lag at startup also?
Thanks

Make sure your blade is tight, I have gotten a number of units with the problem you describe and the blade is just loose. If not the problem will more than likely be in your armature windigs. The brushes being worn will cause the brake either not to function or come on late. Also cleaning the commutator bars sometimes takes care of a late brake. But neither problem would address a slow start up.

Thanks everyone for the replies. The loose blade was the culprit.
Thanks again
