I notice the majority of us are from the west coast/ So Cal area. I think me and pcrack, Aaron are the only 3 from the east coast. Who got all the Cali guys started on this forum? Was it word of mouth or at a trade show that we never get over here? Just curious how it all got started.

Probably the earthquakes that create the need for more than a normal amount of plumbers. That or there is just way too much chit on the west coast.:D:D:D

Gear,
The "Westies" think they are better than us. They have trade shows that we don't get an invite to. Josh even takes them out for a round of golf before the show. Now they are all "buddie buddie" and have drinks together. Sure they may have the better climate riding around in convertibles and motorcyles with a silicone enhanced trophy wife on their arm but it's all just a facade. On Monday most will be ankle deep in pooh just like you and I. And when the "Big One" hits sending So. Cal. back to the stone age we will rule this forum. The blatent posts of the comradery and respect for each other leaves a foul taste in my mouth. I'm not bitter about being left out of the fun I just want a little consideration of our feelings next time. I am human too.
Get your .22 rifle Gear and lets go opossom hunting after midnight. I'll grab a 12 pack of beer. See? we don't need them to have fun. BOOH YAHH! :D

When I started here there was dog, plumber and Rick. I believe plumber was from Illinois but I may be wrong. I just happened to stumble by and did not know anyone before posting. It also seems like we have a bunch of plumbers from Alberta, I'm not sure why we have clusters from different areas but I am sure that will change with time.

The wife and I will be in San Diego 1st week of Jan. for a math convention:eek: If it's still golfing weather then I'll go a round with whoever is close by just so I don't have to hang with these professors. All they do at dinner is pass around math equations on cocktail napkins to see who can solve it first. And when they do talk its all about the elegance and symmetry of mathmatics...BORING! Last years meeting got ugly when the subject of open or closed superstring theories came up. You know like the way we argue about Flat Rate vs. T & M.

Are there good deals on tools at these kind of things?

Sure i will set it up. We can play Frisbee golf instead of regular golf(it will be great for the stoner's that come as they will fit right in with with the majority of the people on the course). Besides there is nothing like yelling at the bums to get out of the way for birdie. After golf we can go to an early dinner at lips.

No, I have been in Utah since Saturday. I thought I would not be able to chat on the forum. The house we are staying in on Bear lake has Internet service. The truck you saw probably is another guy that has my same name. That is another thing you should do soon. Go to your county recorders office and file your fictitious name permit. My business name no one else can use in my area of San Diego. If I was to start doing business further north , I might have to file for a new name.

PLumbersCrack, If you look at the link I think you will find more than I can tell you about Frisbee golf. The rules are similar to golf. I use to play from time to time and can say it is actually pretty fun for an inexpensive outing. Its a great time for young kids and so forth. As long as you do not mind a bunch of pot heads . You usually end up running into at least one hippie every game. As far as Lips goes I have never been. My wife has suggested we go with a few other couples for a good laugh.
Can someone tell me how to include other post with my own. You now with the Grey background.

It is best to talk with your tax guy as every one needs different right offs. I have leased and purchased trucks. I find with the lease options the dealers always try to hide additional fees so watch out for that. There is also a balloon payment at the end of most leases, so make sure you read all of the fine print. One thing about a lease is the dealer can roll in the stock. This way you can fully stock the truck without any upfront out of pocket expenses other than your down payment. Depending on you're business structure this can be helpful. Although I would pay it off right as soon as you can ,unless the tax guy says differently.

Very nice and very similar to my trucks. Mine were 14' long and then had horizontal compartments with dividers above the compartments shown in your picture. That is where we kept all of our copper fittings for repipes. As big as the forward cabs are they have a tighter turning radius then standard vans.
As far as leasing I always purchased my trucks but to each their own. I think if I was turning the trucks over every couple of years I would have leased. The problem is I kept my trucks forever than swapped the bodies to a new chassis

One of my friends who has his own hvac business was telling me about leasing. He said if I buy the van, the only thing I can write is the deprication besides the maintance stuff. If I lease, I can write off the payments plus the maintance stuff. When my lease is up, I just get a new lease w/ a new van. What are the benifits of owning the van outright? Should I have made this a new thread?

Thanks for keeping me on the team Rick (I think, well............... Yea thanks). I actually looked at the last big thread and found the following breakdown by location:
Southern California (6)
New York (1)
Maine (1)
Washington, D.C. (1)
New Hampshire (1)
New Jersey (1)
Oregon (1)
Kansas (1)
Mississippi (1)
Virginia (1)
Don't Know/Won't Tell (2)
Keep in mind that Southern California encompasses L.A., Orange, Ventura, San Diego, Riverside, Imperial, and San Bernadino counties, many of which are larger than eastern states. There's a helluve a lot of people livinging in Southern California (and I'm not including the millions of illegal aliens from Mexico, El Savadore, Guatamala, ect.)

APF,
I based my survey on a thread that I don't see you on, I checked. But I have nothing against Oklahoma, my mother's side of the family all comes from there. My point was that plumbers from all over post on this forum, I just picked one thread to illustrate it. There is alot from Southern California, but millions of people live here.
I meant no offence.
I consider myself a Chicagoan , born and raised , I've just traveled a lot in the last 20 yrs. I've bein in Oklahoma 4 years . I spent 3 years at Edwards AFB in the early 80's . Stayed in Lancaster / Palmdale area for a year. One of my good friends parents had a condo on Mullholland drive. Absolutely beautiful. I don't really feel slighted Dog , I'm just trying to ease into your group and share my passion of our trade . The only really frickin sensitive thing for me is the T&M v Flat rate posts. And it seems once you made your point or said your piece you gotta lighten-up. I don't kick people when there down and grew out of gangs decades ago . This is not a shot at you but a general uneasiness I've had after reading some threads . You just have to ignore fools sometimes and they"ll go away , sure enough.;)
