Planer HELP

Have Ridgid 1300 - chips rather than shaves the wood. :rolleyes:
The tiny chips blow out infeed side rather than outfeed side.
Blades just sharpened.

Any one have this problem solve it. :confused: The planer is well used.

It's supposed to make little chips. You need some dust collection to remove the chips so they don't get blown out the infeed side.At least a shop vac, but a real dust collector is a lot better.

I must not have made the problem clear.
For 3 years the planer made pretty shavings/smooth surface. Shavings were 1/4" wide-2-3" long, without a dust collector.
Now makes fine chips with pock-marked surface.
When making shavings, they blow out the duct just fine. When it makes the tiny chips they blow out the infeed side.
Question is: Why is it making the fine chips leaving the pock marked surface?
Don't think dust collection would have anything to do with the pock marked surface.

When the chips bow out the infeed side they get pressed into the surface of the wood by the infeed roller hence the 'pock' marks. A DC really will help that problem. Did you just change the blades and now you have this problem? Any chance they are on upside down?

Thanks but the blades are installed correctly.
Just had them sharpened and beginning to wonder if they were sharpened correctly or maybe not at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Think I'll put the 'dull' set back in and see will that help.
Cleaned planer good where the blades fit in before I reinstalled the 'sharpened' blades.
I did wonder when I was installing the blades IF they had been sharpened. Just did not look quite right.

One thing to consider when you get the blades sharpened is that they must have the exact same amount of steel removed from each side or they will not index correctly. You may only be cutting fully with one blade. Let us know what you find

Gonna take same blades to be resharpened and put them right back in.

if worls fine then I'll know they were not sharpened correctly the first time.
Have used this same place for two years.

Well hello Marvin. I was haveing the same problem with my 1300. I installed a new set of blades and went right back to the nice clean shavings. Try a new set and if they are working good, then measure the angle of the edge to make sure the others are properly sharpend.

IO really believe the guy did not sharpen the blades.
