OK so last week i told you i would post another good one, so here it is....I was working for a drain co in NJ...We got a call from the Phila Housing Authority (this was 9yrs ago). The call was to check for a serious sewer odor. As soon as my partner and i got out of the truck at the job, you could smell the sewage... The house was a run down house. When the homeowner openned the door, the smell of sewage was so awfull, we went and got towels to cover our face. We immediataly told the homeowner to get out of the house. After going thru our whole shpeal with the guy, he took us to the 1st floor bathroom. He said his toilet hasnt worked in months. We noticed a fish tank, and a 5 gallon bucket next to the toilet. He said he would dump water into the toilet to make it flush everytime he would use it. We both noticed that there were no bolts on the toilet to the floor. The flooring around the toilet was so rotted, i couldnt believe that the toilet hadnt fallen thru into the basement. So we moved the toilet over, and found out why there was so much floor rot. When we moved the toilet we saw that there was no toilet flange, and no toilet sweep. The sweep and flange and broken off and fallen completely down into the basment floor. All the toilet usage, IE daily usage, was just being flushed with his buckets into the basement and all over the floor. There was a mound of CRAP at least a ft and a half high, plus all the urine. We called the PHA and the Board of Health. They relocated the guy, and the PHA took over the job... I couldnt believe that someone would not notice the pipe was broken let alone the sewage that was just falling into the basement. He said he would not go into the basement do to the smell.
Some people really do behave like animals. It amazes me that someone would put up with a smell like that... then refuse to go find out the source of the smell.

We had a remodel job a couple years ago like that. Except the homeowner did fall through the floor, surprising that the copper sewer line didn't break also. I wish I would've taken pictures, it was kinda funny to see just a toilet sitting there with no floor around it. When we went down to the basement, someone had taken off the cleanout cap and never put it back on. I'll save everyone the mental pictures but trust me it was the worst thing I ever saw.

I told my employees about the time I was snaking a line and my retrieving head pulled back a fetus and I called the NYC police and left the fetus still danging off the end of the wire.
The police took me to the station to fill out forms for over 3 HOURS
As luck would have it one of my employees was snaking out a main sewer and the pulled out what he thought was a fetus as it was pink and had what he thought was the umbilical cord still attached. He did not think when he jumped up and a nail in the ceiling penetrated his skull and as he tried to run he crashed into a wall busting his nose.
His Helper rushed him to a near by hospital and called my from the emergency room saying the guy is really hurting what should he do?
I said "Hey he is in great hands leave him there and go get my equipment"
as you cant leave a snake unprotected in any building in the big apple.
The helper called me about 20 minutes later hysterical laughing as the snake had caught a rat that must have been in the soil line for sometime as all the hair was gone and the "umbilical" cord was actually the rats tail.
The nail did penetrate the guys brain but other then an infection he was able to go back to work within 7 weeks

When I was an apprentice one of the mechanics I worked with stuttered and we went to an apartment building and the mechanic told me sit by the truck as he went to see what the problem was.
He rang the supt. bell and said Its the plum plum plumberrr The supt came out and cracked the mechanic with a baseball bat busting his jaw and knocking out a few teeth and was kicking the guy even though he was already out cold the supt continued to pound him
I ran to the phone booth and dialed 911 and called in an assault in progress and gave my Axillary police shield number and within minutes the regulars showed up.
Seems the supt also stuttered and got really upset with low lives making fun of him so the stuttering plumber had no clue that the supt stuttered or visa versa.
The supt was arrested the plumber was put in a hospital with severe head trauma and broken ribs and a punctured lung.
I went from a 3 year apprentice to getting mechanics pay as the shop needed mechanics and rather then hire someone untested the boss just gave me A Scale BUT I still had to attend my apprenticeship classes.

I sent a mechanic to replace a 40 gallon gas fired heater and I sent her an bill.
After 30 days the girl in the office sent a past due notice still nothing so after 60 days I called the lady and asked her if she was happy with the installation and she yes the water is hot and she is very happy with the job.
I then asked how come she didn't pay the bill?
She said BUT I did pay ask Victor.
At 3:30 -4 pm the vans came back to the office and I asked Victor to come and see me and asked him about the water heater and about her saying she paid him.
He looked down at his feet and then said Syl just take it out of my pay but please not all at once as I don't need my wife knowing ok?
I said no problem BUT you do know I change $950 plus tax he said I know and I had to ask was she worth it.
Anyone in business has hundreds of stories especially big city plumbing during the roaring 70's and 80's
