hey all found a neat program called google sketch up. Its a free download and its pretty neat, but there is a learning curve. I would recomend the video tutorials before ya start. I played around with it this afternoon and I liked what it can do. Just thought I would pass it on to everyone.:)

Thanks CW, I had it in the past and totally forgot it was there. Not a bad program indeed.

Been using the windows version for a while. I'm waiting for it to be ported to Linux...

Thermwood has a full scale cabinet CAD program that is free. Totally awesome but the learning curve is huge if you don't have any cad experience. I tried it and managed to get a few things designed but wow, it's tough!

Link is on the lower left of their home page.

Sketchup is great. It was like it was made for woodworking. I use it for designing my telescopes.

There is a Sketchup guru named Dave Richards who contributes to Fine Woodworkings Design, Sketch, Build (http://blogs.taunton.com/n/blogs/blog.aspx?webtag=fw-designforum&redirCnt=1) and heads up a group over at Family Wood Working - Designs, plans, sketches (http://familywoodworking.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=22).

He has helped numerous folks learn to tackle this most excellent program

That's lousy news... I heard on the news that the housing market was cooling off in the States... I guess it's true...

Things are going pretty strong here, knock on wood, fingers crossed...

I hope things pick up for you all real soon ;)

Its really easy to get started on. Just go through the tutorial. It may help that my schooling was in computer graphics and animation though ;)

Really... they have done a good job making an easy to use tool.
