Hi again everyone , Here are few pics of my latest Extreme Birdhouse
I started it almost 2 yrs ago and i finally decided to finish it.

It is 9 ft wide and over 8 ft high and is made from 150 yr old reclaimed barn wood.
This birdhouse has 13 roofs , 32 dormers and a fly through tunnel.

I still have to drill the holes , finish the balconies and most of all i still have to paint the roof just as soon as i figure out what color to paint it.

Thank you oldslowchevy ,I really appreciate your comments.

I was hoping to paint it with something different this time but finding caulking to match is not that easy. Red would be my second choice . :D
I was thinking of mint green like the parliament buildings but i can't find mint green caulk.

I called a caulking store yesterday and they said they could do it but it would be a minimum of 1,000 tubes. I sure don,t need that much.

Thanks for that link
By the time i was to use 20 or 30 tubes of caulking the other 970 tubes would be dried up :D

I personally like the natural wood look. Maybe some stain would work. I am always in awe of your work.

Do your birdhouses sell well?

These are pieces of art that could last hundreds of years.

Josh

Your birdhouses are almost big enough for kids to play in now.:D

Thanks again Josh
I just got a order to build 10 more birdhouses by June 2008 for a customer and my son sold 5 plans last week so it,s nice to see things are looking up.
I also just found someone who is interested in helping me design some more plans and i am hoping to get plans made for the shed i,m building now and the playhouse i did a while ago.

I only want to paint the steel on the roof , the logs look nice just the way they are.

With the wood already being 150 yrs old this birdhouse should already be considered an antique .:D

I think a nice touch with the mint green paint would be some thin copper flashings instead of using caulking either way your work is fantastic. I think you should consider yourself a wood artist and not a carpenter.

Hi again everyone
There wasn,t a whole lot of color choices to go with but i decided to go with a olive green color.
It sure was a lot of work , there were almost 100 pieces to cut , grind and paint . 3 coats

Wow, that is amazing. That might just be enough to convince a bird to stay North through the winter.

Stunning work, John! The color is perfect. I don't know how you have time to post here when you're obviously busy making these tremendous houses. Thanks for posting. :)

Thank you Sandy and Lisa
I was injured about 6 years ago and ended up with a pain disorder and i find building these birdhouses help me deal with the pain .
It,s harder for me to sit around so i have a lot of time on my hands to build.
I am just happy to be able to do what i love doing and it is a great feeling to know that other people appreciate what i do too .
