I found this forum when looking for info on the odd sized hose Ridgid came up with for their new vacs. I was angry about the lack of info readily available on the packaging, booklet and through the "experts" at HD so I came here to pose the question. I ended up sticking around because I love to talk about tools and I found the community here to be very helpful and knowlegable. I have learned a lot here and got some valuable advice that has helped me make good purchases, as well as a heads up on tools that I never knew I needed until I read about them here!:D
It ended up being a good thing for Ridgid that their info was lousy because I have gained a little loyalty to them and bought more than a few Ridgid tools since.
I wonder what brought y'all here, and whether the forum has made you more of a Ridgid fan? You can take the poll and leave comments on whether it has been a good marketing tool on you.

Could be more long winded,But why,you guys already know what I'm trying to say:D

Hmmm... so broken tools are the key to getting new forum members... (takes note) :D
I started the forum so I don't know how I got here. it just happened.
I am extremely proud of the quality folks in this forum. I have many friends here.
BTW... make sure you guys try getting in the top 5 in that video contest. It would be sweet to meet some of you on my stomping grounds. I'm sure I'll get to spend some time with the top 5 while they are here.

I actually came here because I was researching table saws. This was in the good old days when HD actually had example saws you could touch and play with. I had pretty much decided on a Grizz TS, but when I saw the RIDGID 3650, I had to learn more about it. I had purchased the RIDGID 16-gal shop vac already, and was pretty impressed with it's functionality and workmanship. Once I found this place, with all the help and suggestions and ideas and humor, the decision was made. I'm tremendously happy with the saw, and have made some friends here. Since getting the saw, I've gotten the jointer-planer, which is a great machine, the BS which is not such a great machine, and the oscilating spindle/belt sander. That sander is terrific! I also recently purchased a RIDGID jig saw and ROS. The ROS sees just about daily use. The jig saw has proven itself to be a great little helper, too! I also got their little 9.6v "rotator" drill driver for use in the shop and when driving screws to hold servers in racks. When you have 300 servers to rack, a strong, dependable driver that's lightweight and can be either right-angle or straight is really critical. That little driver was a real life-saver in that project, and is a daily-use type tool still.
Currently, I'm debating getting a new set of battery-powered tools, mainly a circular saw. RIDGID figures high in my list so far. I like RIDGID's LSA, and their user features and ergonomics are generally well thought out. I've had reason to use their customer support in the past, and have always found them to be responsive and helpful. All of these things and this forum play a part in my purchasing decisions. I prefer to make purchases only after careful research and comparison. I'm not a "rabid RIDGID" fan (i.e. I'm not a plumber), but I find their tools will generally find their way to the top of the list when I'm researching products. :D
I'm a woodbutcher with a dial caliper in my pocket. I demand accuracy in my tools. I may be in the "hobbiest" category, but I want to purchase a tool once, and use it forever. The circular saw I currently use is an antique Black and Decker my Dad gave me 20 years ago. He had it for at least 20 years before that. It still works, and works well. That saw is the measure of what I want out of all my tools! And that's why there's a lot of RIDGID orange in my shop!

Rick brought me to the forum. I signed up to ask Rick a private question about drain cleaning. He explained the advantages about posting my question for everyone to see. I never wanted to go public because some members were overbearing idiots(if this offends you, then it's probably you). I'm glad I did, the sharing of knowledge on this forumhas increased my plumbing tremendusly. I belong to a pros only HVAC forum but I don't care to much for it because those guys have no personality. They talk the trade strictly which is fine and it becomes repetative. Sometimes it's nice to see what Mrs. WC had for dinner or helping out other members when they're in hard times. More friendly atmosphere. We should have a Ridgid get together so everyone can meet in person.

Actually I don't remember exactly what brought me here since I bought many of my Ridgid tools after becoming a member. I'm pretty sure it was due to the 1065 miter saw which was about to take a 50' trip down out a window after the dang thing wouldn't cut straight no matter what. Came in here to look up any other user experiences on the saw and was surprised to see that it was a very open enviroment where people could freely discuss any brand or problem, even Ridgid, without being censored by admins. Ended up buying a few more Ridgid tools I would have never considered if it wasn't for the insight of people here.

The poll is Missing the choice for- "I bought a Ridgid tool and it was a POS out of the box (14" Bandsaw) and wanted to know how others fixed theirs after returning 2 to HD and just got plain fed up with returning them trying to find one that was actually usable." :slap: Lots of time, effort, and extra cash spent, and 2 sets of totally off balanced wheels sent by CS , the third set they sent were usable. :bravo:
Funny the Ridgid 6 1/8"Jointer/Planer was dead nuts on out of the box.:scratchhead:
So I could'nt vote in the poll as my reason was not an option.

Before joining I was looking to buy a few Ridgid woodworking machines. After reading many posts I really think I'll be checking out other brands. When I want parts I want them quickly and without it being real pain to get them.
Looks to me like the poll is closed now. :crying: I'm :outtahere: now
