I got a ?? for Electricians, Plumbers and Fellow HVAC workers.

What tools in general, do companies in your trade provide vs. what you are expected to provide on your own??

The reason I ask this is that the companies down here (HVAC) in Florida provide nothing except a recovery machine and maybe a shop vac. From wire stripers to vacuum pump and all tools in between...sazalls, gauges, nitrogen regulators etc ...the companies expect the HVAC tech / installer to proved all their own tools. Just life down here.

Last company I worked for was electrical / hvac Electricians seemed to provide all their own tools...power tools hammer drills and all that. Company seemed to provide them nothing...but I'm not 100% sure of that since I not an electrician and never thought about it.

Current company I work for is hvac / plumbing. the other day a plumber needed a drop light so warehouse guy got him one for his truck. In the process of talking to the plumbers it seems that most companies provide all but hand tools and some power tools...sazall and drill and torch is on the plumber, but everything else...augers drain machines, pex tools etc most companies provide.

Soo that's why I'm asking...just curious what companies provide in your area and your trade.

Thanks all.

where i work they supply all power tools all the special tools needed for testing boilers and AC systems . we have to get all our one hand tools and cordless tools ,but if a cordless tool brakes they will fix it or replace it .
we get our own van to take home and we can put what ever we want in it , i have a microwave in it .and it has my name on the door [ so i know it is mine ]
they pay for our uniforms and get them cleaned to .
we get $200 to get work related tools each year

in the union shop i worked for starting in 1981, they were required to supply everything.

years later, we had to supply our own tape measures and channellocks. i guess these were the tools that seemed to disappear the most. that was till 1994. don't know the current standard.

Son in law supply his own hand tools and the company provides the heavy tools or power tools, and if my son in law has something they need they will "rent" it from him.
He is a union journeyman electrician in Wyoming.

man u all got it nice....last company I worked for made us Techs pay for our own map books....If u did not have one company gave u one and took $35 out of ur check.....maybe why I left..

Down here for hvac company gives a truck..take home...recovery mechine and tank, shop vac, dolly, and ladders is the ONLY things companies provide down here...I've worked for 3 companies...(2nd one was worse...u provided your own ladders and dolly) Nitogen, oxygen and acctlyne tanks replaced as used....but u must give one to get one...sooo your tank....from my t-stat screw driver too my sea snake micro the rest is all mine....if it breaks its my problem...no tool funds. We can buy tools on a purchase order and company will take it out over 4 weeks...ie buy a $200 tool and company takes $50 a week from your check....thats considered a nice thing by us.

I've heard that Florida companies provide a lot less than companies in other places.
