Just had a thought, why not use a metal metal detector in conjunction with a snake cable to locate pipe? A very good metal detector can be bought for 300 which is far less than the scout. In addition, metal detectors are designed to locate coins, jewelry, small metal objects. Surely they should be able to locate a snake cable. What do you think, will it work?

The problem is it will find every piece of metal you walk over. With a locator you are locating a specific signal.

When you think cheap read your signature line.

no, a metal detector has a broad weak beam only able to go down a few inches, maybe a foot if your lucky

I use a Metrotech valve box locator when I am looking for buried valve boxes.
