P.V.C. to A.B.S.
Oatey product #30925 "GREEN SOLVENT" has it's label advertising both the NSF and UPC shield. It also states that it meets ASTM D-3138.
Does their UPC reference give us enough proof to be able to use it under our code.
Does any of this info do anything for those under IPC.
All my inspectors have looked for green so far on these combination joints.Just haven't done any in L.A. city yet.Don't want to get caught ignornt again.

According to the IPC, you can't use it. Got a feeling Mark is going to school me again. I got my pen and notebook ready to take down some notes.:)

my understanding is the green is more of a contact cement. it doesn't actually weld/ melt the plastics together.
typically application is on the cheap styrene pipe for area drains.
i'll read their website for more info.

If your IPC states directly that it is not approved that really shortens the discussion.I was hoping there was an interperetation of something in your code that was hindering the IPC's.
Sucks to be in your shoes:nanner:
p.s. Just read Rick's reply. This could turn around and bite me.

Both the IPC and the UPC require ASTM D-2235 for ABS and ASTM D-2564 (with primer) for PVC.

non pressure applications.
i still don't think we can use it in a dwv system here.
probably just outside area drains.

In the 03 ipc in 707.1 under prohibited joints, it says "solvent cement joints between differnt types of plastic pipe." Doesn't this rule that glue out?

I mentioned the 03 ipc because we still use that here in VA.

Wow,this is fast.
So my previous inspectors to date have been approving something that has not been accepted per 2000 UPC.
Why didn't you warn me Mark,I've spent more than $300.00 on the 2003 and 2006 code books.I could've spent a lot less buying your dinners:p

Yes it would as related to "solvent" cements but I'm not sure we know what type of cement it is. The more important code is IPC 705.2.2 which tells you what ASTM Standard ABS must comply with.

Funny, in my states traditionally "holier than thou" plumbing code, I made the assertion that that cement was completely illegal with a friend.
Looked it up on approved materials to humor him last year and...waddaya know...it's legit here.
Now if we find some ABS to use it on, it's all good.

The green glue is a solvent cement and I have heard rumors both codes will adopt it next code cycle. It is possible LJ may adopt them sooner.

It's funny but no one ever includes their code book as one of the most important tool on their truck. However, it can make the difference between making a profit and taking a hit.

I heard you the first time when you told us a few weeks ago.I think now I'll get a code book in the truck.
But now I'm not completely confident and would like to clarify.
My 2003 and 2007 are not accepted in Calif. yet.I forgot what you had written in the other thread.I'm heading back over there as soon as I post this.
Do I need to go and purchase a 2000?
You don't need to post a reply I'll come back and answer my own question with the answer that is there.

O/K
Just repeating what was posted on the other thread.
The 2007UPC is the IAPMO improved 2006UPC which will be accepted in Calif.
Mark, have they stated when this is going to happen.
I actually held off on the 2006 at the contractors book store till the 2007 came out because the salesman said this was going to be initiated this year.
I thought it would be the first of the year.

Adam,
You may be okay after all. I found the California amendments and two items of interest were ABS/PVC transition cement and one step glue (Blue Glue) for CPVC. I believe the new code starts today!

I am fairly certain it is today or close to it as they published their 45-day notice November 21st.
