>>>Defective Thermal Expansion Tank<<< (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTP9J7JAtk4)
I run into this all the time, it's so common it isn't funny. I took video this time because I'm embedding it to my website as it will create a good "seal the deal" factoid to get customers to commit.
All I have to do now is show the proof in video when I'm at their home, I've checked their Expansion Tank indicating failure through leakage at the schrader valve and now I show them what harmful contaminates they are drinking, bathing, feeding to their animals.
Of course my actions are guided by monetary reward.

Go ahead, anyone can use it at their own free will.
I wrote a pretty good narrative/description if you click the description tag to the right.
I have that linked up on another non-plumbing site that's a local tie where I live. Like a local community board that is guaranteed to land calls.
My first subscriber joined tonight from me posting videos...........check out one of his videos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4B0hGyKV9qs&NR=1).

Is that just stagnant water sitting in there turning black from a broken diapragm?

Yes.....and it has the potential to affect the water quality when there is a huge reduction in pressure as this will cause this water to slowly mix with the rest of the water in the system.
Pretty horrible stuff when you smell it.
