We (the USA) is a country of over 300,000,000 people yet things in my life continue to make me feel it really is a small World. I have started this Thread so I can share some of mine and others can share some of theirs.

Okay here is my first one. My middle son Jared has resigned as a Police Officer in Los Angeles to pursue his lifelong dream of being a fulltime helicopter pilot. He left Los Angeles on Sunday morning to head to Louisiana for a 3-week training class for his new employer. Today during his first day in the class he was visiting with one of the guys in the class and found out the guy was stationed in Germany with my son Jaysen. Outside of being a fellow pilot the guy was also Jaysen’s church leader at the time. As a matter of fact, Brenda and I had the opportunity to meet this same guy when we traveled to Germany to attend a grand daughters Baptism.

Joined Air Force in Pensacola, FL in Nov of 1978 at age of 25. Got stationed in Minot, ND in June of '79. Minot is about 30 miles south of Canada (waaaay north). Summer of '80 playing softball against local team in town. Get up for my first at bat when all of the sudden from shortstop I hear "Danny?". (no announcers mind you) I look out and there is a friend of mine I went to High School with, hadn't seen in 8 years, didn't remember he had joined Air Force straight out of high school, didn't know he got stationed at Minot years earlier, married a local girl, gotten out and stayed in Minot.

Okay here is another one with the same two sons. My son Jaysen was stationed at Fort Campbell in Kentucky and had just returned from Iraq. While he was gone he had decided to buy a new Victory motorcycle with his combat bonus after he returned. After exhausting the selections of Victorys at the local dealerships he called me and asked for help finding one with the color and equipment he wanted. I pulled some strings with some friends from the factory and found one at a dealership in Indiana. Jaysen loaded the wife and kids in the car and headed to Indiana. The dealer had the exact bike Jaysen wanted so they started writing up the paperwork. While Jaysen was filling out the paperwork the dealer suddenly asked if he had a brother who owned a Super Cross team. As it turned out several years earlier Jared had stopped there to have some race bikes rebuilt while his team was headed to the East Coast.

Well mine are quite as good as your guys, but i always have some weird things pop up. I lived in a different area from when i was born up till i was 8yrs old. Hours away from where i live now. I moved after the 1st grade in my old elementary school. I did a job 2 yrs ago, a week after i went up to my old area just to see how things were, and the house that i went to was my 1st grade teachers house who had moved into my area. No big deal, but kinda ironic after just visiting the old stomping grounds and seeing my old school.

Some what similar we moved when I was in 5th grade to the opposite end of the San Fernando Valley. Soon after was Halloween and as we were trick or treating I learned my third grade teacher from the old school lived three doors down from our new house.

Somewhat similar again,
After years of moving around with my work and deciding to start a new carreer at the age of 29, I was building a new home two hours away from where I lived at the time.
When closing on my home in the Delta, I was actually selling it to a friend from High School who was moving to the delta.
While I was fininshing my new home in Central Mississippi, a guy building a home about 1/4 mile down the road (also building a new home) stopped by to see who I used for my roofer. We kind of looked each over for a minute and started asking questions, turned out he and I once spent the night together in County Jail for a fight that broke out during a crawfish boil in Hammond, LA.
Yep, it is a small world.

since this is called a small world, i'll get the one for the farthest story;)
in 1989 i spent some time in fiji. was on a small boat to a private island and there was another american who was also going too.
the problem was he was escaping the rental car company after he wrecked 2 cars.
5 years later i bumped into him in los angeles at a store:D
gets better.
2004 joey and i were on our honeymoon in venice. we were at the trevi fountain in rome. i overheard a person talking among hundreds of other tourist there. i walk up to him and ask him if he was in fiji in 1989. if he crashed some rental cars:D
it was him:eek: although he had some explaining to do. his current wife wasn't aware of the story:nono:
now that's a small small world;)

The wife and I went to an auction about 80 mies west of where we lived. While standing among the crowd, we struck up a conversation with the lady next to us. After a short period of time she said I looked familiar and we started quizing each other as to where we might have run into each other. Finally she asked where I went to high school and after I responded, she said "Oh, did you by any chance know Jim R.?" I replied " I am Jim R." Turns out we were neighbors when we were kids and went to the same Elementary school. This was about 45 years l:shrug:ater.

I was visiting with a window expert on a project in Las Vegas and learned he lived about a mile away from me. I asked him how long he had lived there and he told me he lived there since he moved from his mom's home in Pacomia. As I had also grown up in Pacomia I asked where he lived in Pacomia. As it turned out we grew up 10-doors apart and he went to school with my younger brother.

My dad was in Vietnam, during one of his tours (3) and we the family were residing in Clark AFB, Philippians Islands in 1969-70. So I spent a little over a year in their school on base. Then we met my dad in Hawaii when he was done w/Vietnam.
We eventually moved to Two Habors MN. when dad retired from the military. In 1976 a kid (Brian) moved to our town and I went to school w/him in the Philippeans. In 1977 a girl (Kathleen) moved here to, we also went to school together back when.
Non of our dads knew each others, or our mothers. There is no base around here, but somehow we (the kids) managed to go to school together again. Brian moved away around 1979, and Kathleen stayed and graduated, she moved for a few years then came back. About a month after she came back, a train hit her car and killed her instantly.

Looking for nuns on the run??
I saw that movie, Greg. The plot was awful :o
1985 I was in a bar called Poseurs. Cafeteria during the weekday. Punk bar on weekends.
Chatting to a girl who just moved back into D.C. from London. She mentioned she was born here at The Columbia Hospital for Women but moved to London as an infant. Her father worked for The State Department.
I mentioned I was also born there. We laughed and joked about what a small world it is.
She liked my new earing. (man, I was so cool back then) Told her my ears were so big because I was born on Easter Sunday. She started to scream:shocked2: She was born just 2 hours after me.
We joked some more about being lost twins :nono: I found her less attractive after that discussion
She couldn't dance  but boy she could pound down the Guinness :barf:

My son Jon was born on July 4 1976 in the San Fernando Valley. He was the second baby born that day being minutes after the little girl who was first. They were the celebrities of the day an were given plaques to memorialize the event. Both babies were in all of the newspapers and were called the Bicentennial babies. Ten years later while living in Santa Clarita Valley Jon brought his plaque to show and tell at school only to find out the little girl who was born in the room next to him was in his class and brought he plaque.

I have a friend through a car club that lives in Memphis. The wife and I went to visit him last year. While we were out for lunch one day we were talking about the area we live in. He says he has a cousin that lives up my way and married a guy named Brian N. So I ask if he knew if Brian N had an older light blue ford pickup and he says sure does. Brian N's sister was one of my very first girlfriends.

Back in early 2004 both my wife and I were expecting and my sister and her husband were also. We were due late march-early april and my sister was due later april.
April 6th rolls around and finally my wife is in labor and we have a healthy baby girl at 7:30am on the 6th. So my parents are up googling over their newest grand child when we hear a commotion coming down the hall, another woman in labor. I look out in the hall, and sure enough, it's my sister. At 10:30 that same night in the next room over my nephew was born!!!
No planning involved their at all.

I was living in a suburb of Denver I think in 82, with my brother. Well we got into a huge fight and I needed to get away from him for awhile. So I gathered up my camping gear and threw them in my back pack and hitched rides up into the Evergreens. So I spent 3 nights up there camping, oh what serenity.
So I'm hitching back to our place and my last hitch, turned out to be my brother best friend from high school. They graduated back in 76, anyhow Andy had no clue to who I was, until I placed my face into the window, to see how far he was going.
Now Andy was heading back to our home town from southern Colorado at this point. So we're talking and I told him I'm living with Bill (my brother) and Andy decided to stay with us for the night and party. So this was a big surprise for my brother, but even a bigger surprise to me. Because Andy decided to stay there and look for work. In which he did find work and never moved out.
So I couldn't handle the two of them, so I moved out and moved in w/the ex Brother in Law. Then eventually my brother ended up moving in with us and Andy ended up with our old apartment. Funny how things work...

Very long....
Alright this one is a little long with several “small world events”. When my oldest daughter was growing up she had a best friend Angie. Angie had a cousin Jeanna who was 4-years younger than Angie and would spend her summers at Angie’s house. Jeanna use to come by and spend the day at our house playing with our puppies. We lived in Southern California and Jeanna’s dad was stationed at Hill AF base in Utah. Jeanna never knew her mother as she was told her mother left her at the hospital.
When Jeanna was 13 she came home to find her father on the couch and he was non responsive. It turned out he had died of a heart attack so as far as anyone was concerned Jeanna was now an orphan. Jeanna moved to Southern California to live with her aunt. My daughter went off to college as did Angie so we did not see Jeanna anymore. Three or four years later Jared brought his new girlfriend (Jeanna) home and when she comes in the house she realizes it was the house where she use to play with the puppies. Six years later they were married.
After several years of marriage Jenna decides she wants to find her mom. Jared did some searching and found the mom lived 80-miles away. One day Jared dropped in unannounced to the mother’s home and tried to talk to her. She was a junky and sent Jared on his way so Jared never told Jenna he had found her mom. A few more years go by and Jeanna once again expresses a need to find her mom. This time when Jared goes by the mom needs a ride to a clinic so she is a little friendlier to Jared. While Jared talks to her he finds out Jeanna has a younger brother and an older brother. The younger brother is in prison but the older brother is an LEO in Riverside.
Since Jared is also a LEO he gives the older brother a call and starts with something like “You don’t know me and I don’t know if you know it but you have a sister”. The brother replies yes her name is Jeanna and I’ve been looking for her for the last 25-years. As it turns out the older brother was from before Jeanna’s dad had married Jenna’s mom. Jeanna’s dad had married Jeanna’s mom while he was stationed at March AF base but soon realized the mom was an addict so he divorced her and took Jeanna out of the home. He continued to bring Jeanna by to see her older brother but eventually was transferred to Hill AF base so he told the brother he would not be seeing Jeanna for a little while. The father had never shared any info about his ex-wife with any of his family and he took the info with him when he died.
After the brother finished with Jared he called Jeanna and they spent the next few hours on the phone. By the time Jared got home they were still on the phone so they agreed to meet in the middle to eat dinner. When Jenna meet her brother he told her he was getting married in a few weeks and how much he had hoped to find her to sit on his side of the aisle. After dinner the brother invited Jeanna to the engagement dinner to meet his fiancé and her family. Jeanna agreed and asked my wife to go with her.
I was not able to go with my wife so my youngest son Jon went with her. Jon of course was bored to tears as they thumbed through piles of photo albums. Suddenly Jon looked at a picture of some kids in ROTC uniform and says “mom this is a picture of me”. It turned out Jeanna’s brother was the student Commander of his ROTC unit and the head of his Drill Team. The same year Jon was the student Commander of his ROTC unit and the head of his Drill Team. Both Drill Teams had won local competitions which allowed them to attend the National Finals which was held 2,000 miles away in Louisiana. When the brother heard Jon he looked at him and said your Jon-Boy and Jon replied yeah and you’re Mikey.
So to make a long story short Jon knew Jeanna’s brother 10-years before Jeanna even knew she had a brother and they met several thousand miles from home.

I am the President of a small community water company in Utah. My wife Brenda happens to be one of the members of the Board so she attends all of the Board meetings with me. During a Board meeting in 2006 we had a guy come in who wants to build a bunch of homes which will more than double the current demand on our system. While visiting with the guy it turns out the guy grew up with us in Southern California. Although we did not know each other we knew a lot of the same people. Before the night was over we learned his uncle was the family doctor who delivered Brenda and her twin brother.

Okay this is more work related and a little OT but still a good one, I got a call one day from a customer by the name of Tony Wheeler. He explained he need an early morning call on Monday of the following week. I put the job in the book and I told him I would send Vern out that morning to do the call. When Monday morning came around I got a call just before 7:30 AM and the caller said "this is Tony Wheeler I need someone first thing this morning". To which I responded Vern would be right over and I asked him to give me his contact info again as I was not in the shop yet. I called and gave Vern the info and left the supply house to head for the shop.
Later that morning I got a call from Tony Wheeler and he complained it was 8:30 AM and Vern had not yet shown up. I called Vern and Vern said he was just down the street and he would be there in a minute. I called Tony Wheeler back and let him know Vern should be there in minutes. A half hour later I get another call saying Vern still had not shown up. This time when I called Vern he told me he had been at the house working for a half hour already. With Vern still on the line I called Tony who told me there was no way Vern had been there for a half hour as he still had not even shown up.
Well it took a little bit of back and forth but what I finally figured out is in our little valley we had two Tony Wheelers who both happened to call and request service for the same morning and I thought they were the same person. The pissed off Tony Wheeler ended up calming down and we all had a good laugh and both Tony Wheelers were taken care of that day.
