the little bit of water, 5 seconds will not have an effect on the built in ice maker of a freezer. the water will not be hot enough to create an issue in 1/4'' tubing. make sure to use copper or a stainless flex that is rated for hot water as poly is not.

are you sure there is no through the door water? this will have an effect.

why can't you get the cold water connected properly?

I don't cook with hot water as the quality isn't as good. I wouldn't make ice with it either. Drain a WH and see all the gunk that comes out.

How about the wive's tale that hot water freezes faster than cold.?

And yes I'll bet cubes made from hot water taste a bit funky.

And if you are like me all my hot water is run through a water softener which I would not like to drink or use as ice cubes. Just a thought.
