why do some electric motors make a tick, tick, tick, sound after they run down after turning them off:grin:

It's the starting switch on the rotor. If you mean some motors do a tick, tick, tick, that's just mechanical rubbing. During startup and also costing to a stop contacts open and close. That normally makes one clack sound.
