If you haven't noticed I changed the look and feel of the forum just a bit. I know some of you hate change but I am just wondering what initial reactions are. I am wide open to suggested changes, comments, and yes even insults :p. It was bothering me having the banners at the top so I decided to change it up a bit.

Josh,

AS a fellow webmaster myself, I love the side ads instead of the top :)

Why You ask?

Headers are for site theme not ads ( My opinion )
Sidebars are nicer for ads / info as they can be stacked better :)
The NEW header up top is less busy and gives me a more "personal and welcome feeling"

These are just my thoughts of course, But yea, I like this way better ;)

Do I get a new free tool, for my opinion????:D:D

Its alright, no issues with me....

Now is a good time as any to tell you Josh, your doing a fine job around here, I don't mind changes, some are good, some bothers me, but eventually I'll come around. Woussko will be barking like crazy over the changes though, I guess we'll just have to throw him a bone to chew on..... Have a nice day, Josh

Ok, I'll be the first to say I don't really care for the new layout. I find the page a little harder to follow with everything crammed up together and the side ads are distracting. I prefer the last version over this one.

The only issue I could say is too bad there isn't some type of word wrap for the site...seems like some screens have that trouble.
Mainly whenever someone posts a large photo...would be nice if the text were bunched to the left so you didn't have to scroll left/right to read 30 responses to a photo.
The "friend" and "Thank you" features are pretty cool...they give us all a way to allow eachother to know who agree's on certain topics without making the thread even more lengthy.

I excluded the ads from any of the screens that display posts. Its mostly just the main forum display. Its one of those preference things. I think we may try it this way for a while.

I do want to build an actual RIDGIDForum logo for the top in place of that text though.

Thanks for the input everyone. Negative and positive are all good.

I like it. The only thing I don't understand is on some posts I have to move that bar at the bottom of my screen left and right to read the posts. Maybe it's me but I don't know how to fix it.

Question for you guys that have to scroll at the bottom... Once you open the thread are the banners displaying on the right side of the screen.

Its supposed to be set up so that when you are reading threads its not displaying the banners on the right.

Let me know and I'll take care of it.

That is how mine works:confused:

Can you maybe put a bar at the top of the right hand tabs that will allow you to close that field and enlarge the thread topics?

Is the gallery really necessary? Might free up some space on the front page. Personally, I'm a little tired of seeing the snake on Ricks face or a blurry pic of someones workshop. I like the idea but it just seems that no new photos are being added to make it banner worthy.

Moving the links to the right side is a little wierd but I'll get used to it. You need to look at it from a newcomers perspective. Are you trying to cram too much onto the page at one time? For the regulars, we will just glaze over it but 1st timers might like having everything within reach.

You can minimize this by clicking on the bluish up arrow on the right hand side of the pics. Don't care for the ads on the side. I feel like it's in my face. I've come to think of this place as a social gathering, not as a place where Ridgid can tell me about the next trade show or the next product.

Before the ads were only at the top so once you scroll down it was no big deal. Now the discussion topics are squished side to side to make room. Just doesn't seem balanced to me.

I think when I first saw it it was squeezing everything. I sometimes browse w/o a full screen window so I liked it better on top where it wouldn't always use screen real estate.

But, since it is not on posts, I think it is OK.

I have to agree about the photo gallery... it's getting old, and it takes a bit to load, at least on my AOL screen.

As far as the new look, well I guess I'm on the minority side. I don't like change, just for the sake of change. When it was on the top, you looked at it, scrolled down and were done with it. Now that it's over on the right (odd, I think), it not only squeezes the headings, but it's just more bothersome, sort of "in my face" as someone said.

But, like everything else that get's "new and improved", I just have to get used to it.

I got Rick in by going through the micro tab. Thank goodness-otherwise he would not have let me go to sleep.

CWSmith-I personally think AOL sucks. But that is a side note to the photos:p

No, this thread is an example...I either have to widen the window or scroll left/right to read it.
Thats what I meant by some kind of word wrap...like windows notebook & wordpad have.
The problem is usually on threads with large pics & can be a headache when there are a large number of posts to read through.
It seems more prone on this new format.

Heck, I'm on AOL too... new and improved?
Try being afraid to click on the labyrinth of "useful & informative" links littered all over every single screen they have that winds up being nothing but obnoxious product endorsements worded as fact.
I'm soooo glad they went to such extremes to eradicate spam...makes more room for their "informative" links and E-mails.

Personally, I think it's ok. I use 1280x1024 for both screens, and the Ridgid site takes up most of the one monitor! The ads seem to take up a lot of real estate, but it's only on the main forum page, so everything else is still there. The thread view is still the same.

I've never been able to manage using two screens; I always end up getting myself confused. I don't often use multiple desktops and page through them either. I tend to prefer multiple windows on one big screen. Unfortunately, my Thinkpad LCD doesn't support 1600x1200 or better, and to get dual output I need to go down to 1280x1024, which I find too small.

Welp, I adjusted it back to 1024x768 & it seems ok now.
I just got a new PC, with Vista & NVIDIA video card, but the monitor is the same.
I had to tweak my screen size & position after adjusting the resolution...dunno why, but 1024x768 seems ok now.
I'd picked up the new PC right when I was swamped with work, so I'm guessing I should have mucked with the resolution & settings then, but I was busy.
Whatever the trouble was, it's gone now...thank you for your attention & patience.

The smileys would be for everyone to use!

At the bottom of someone's post. . .if you just want to laugh (and I laugh a lot) and not necessarily quote and reply. Exactly how the "Thanks" button works.
