Found this yesterday, but since there was a vault explosion, I was unable to un-earth it. (no power)
I have it recorded on DVD also, from my sewer camera, but we are having trouble posting the video, so here are the pictures.
Included, the repair pictures.
It appears a plumbing company approx 3 months ago pulled a new sewer, and well, as you can tell, they didn't care if it worked or not. :p

My thoughts exactly. And the new owners only owned the home for 2 months now.
I have a DVD of the inside of the pipe, the first bend, with water running to show direction, it is pretty cool. I was not able to get my mini past the first bend, so thats where I started digging.
Wife is working on posting the Video :dance:

Robert, is this a "pipe pull" with a pit/chain/cable system?

still, you would think it would backup before 2 months

Yes it is, I had a heck of a time cleaning out the old cast iron.
When I did trenchless pipe bursting, pulling through cast was horrible, we would have to break the pipe at the RAM, because it would not split like clay.
Still, there is no reason not to run a camera after the job to check your work.

agreed, but it did. ;) I did work for them before they moved in 2 months ago :D Different work....I replaced the gas main ;)
Oh yeah, I will show you how it was draining, I ran water with my camera in the line to video the spot, pretty cool stuff.

I was interested in how pulling works as I haven't witnessed one. We've always trenched in new PVC. Is that PE (Polyethylene)? Or something else that's not familiar to me?

I believe it is High Density PE ;)

I'll have to educate myself a little about that. But I don't think I like it. If it's not approved for a new installation then why for this installation? I'll have to check the code. Great Pics!:D

A good example of why you would pull sewers is my 40-year old Orangeburg sewer pipe is under my driveway for about 60'. To replace my sewer I will need to replace my driveway at an additional cost of $12,000 - $18,000.

It's approved, just not bent like that :D It is in the UPC and approved all over here in los angeles.
It has it's uses, and saves on digging the whole yard up.
We did 280' with 3 entry pits in an overnight job at DHL, across a warehouse to give them temporary relief until a contractor came in and trenched the warehouse. The stuff drains with negative grade, the company paid me to monitor the line twice a week with a camera.
It has it's good and bad things about it. It will not repair negative fall;) and in this case, it didn't make the bend:D
I am sure the hard clay dirt and the fact it was going through a comby had alot to do with the "kinks"

Interesting. I'll have to check if N.C. allows it. We don't allow a Fernco type coupling underground.

Nothing will glue to the pipe, the fernco is the best band for this installation.

With all respect due, if I installed PE pipe with a Fernco for a sewer line here, I would be told to remove it. Period.

i'm curious to know what caused the line to squeeze at those 2 locations?
i've done plenty of lines with 45's and sdr17 is real tuff stuff. you can hit it with a sledge hammer and not damage it:bash:
in fact when i'm finished and run a camera through, you can't even see where the 45 was.
the 45's are turned into real long radius sweeps.
was there anything in the ditch that was pressing on these 2 bad spots?
is it possible that this was a 90 and not a 45 bend?
you have a 45 and 22 to bring it together.
i've done as many as 3 -45's on 1 pull.
what happened to the original installer?
nice photos;)

As Robert posted it is legal under the UPC (IS 26-2003). It is also legal under the IPC (Table 702.3).

is it possible that this was a 90 and not a 45 bend? I believe there was possibly a comby there. I found some of it ;)
you have a 45 and 22 to bring it together. Unable to get a 1/4 bend to work properly, was barely able to get the 1/8th and 22 to work.
i've done as many as 3 -45's on 1 pull. I too have pulled through 1/8 bends and even 1/4 bend's, no problem.
what happened to the original installer? I am sure the new owners will be in contact with you. :p Kidding, not sure, no one knows who did the installation...these are new owners, I am sure they will contact the previous owner.
nice photos;) thank you, can't wait for you all to see the video!!!

only had this happen 1 time as the soil was too soft and the splitting head got caught up in 2 hubs 6'' apart. i actually pulled out the entire 55' sections including a wye with a brass plug:eek:
had to use a single jack to bust the hubs before the pulley.

exactly, the single jack works perfect, between the posts and the plate protecting the RAM

I'm starting to suspect there's good reason drain cleaning is such a big part of a plumbers job in other states.
This came up in conversation with another member on the phone recently.

If you're refering to the fully stainless shielded ferncos we are just now starting to see them on the shelves.First time I saw them I knew I would be using them from that point on.

No he's talking about a shear ring. Separate stainless band that goes over rubber Fernco
We have to use those on Ferncos underground or bury in concrete

If my local Fergusons had them, I would use them for sure. I like the shielded coupling, but a no hub is just not good for this material or in this situation.
I will keep my eye's out and when they are local, I will be using them, trust me!!
