Well we are all starting to show up in Ohio. Tonight a dozen of us met for dinner then played jenga and the electrical shock games until just before midnight. This is going to be a great adventure for sure.

Ah, I wish I'd known. This was the night my wife worked late. I had leftovers out of the 'fridge. See y'all tomorrow evening.
(I put a note in the roundup participants group, but I don't know if anyone checks that.)

I just saw the note now. Rick called Josh when we got off the plane and he said he'd meet us. We didn't think anyone else would be in on the extra night:(
We would have loved to have you:D

Hi everyone, Have a great time but do watch out for nasty T-storms. We are already under alerts for a huge regional area expected this afternoon and evening. Very heavy rain, local flooding, strong wind gusts. I'm near Washington, DC by the way. The alert for my area extends way out all over MD, DC much of VA, eastern WV and the south central and central PA areas. All I can say is that over the weekend our electric power companies had their work cut out and so did all the tree removal crews. There are far too many old sick trees and something really attacked the evergreens hard this spring. Many are busting up with just gentle winds and heavy rain. Many are uprooting too.
If you have internet access, check these sites.
http://www.noaa.gov - this gets pretty technical
http:www.weather.com - The weather channel, just add a city and state
http://weather.aol.com/national.adp - You can go there without being a member. Just add a ZIP code or city and state. This one is really easy to use.
If you are driving, go into the bigger truck stops. They keep up on changing weather, local road flooding and such.

Oh come on we brought sitters with us. Most of us came out this trip just to met you and the boys.

I wonder how infants would fare at Dave and Busters. Great place for Kids but toddlers maybe not so much.
I told Helen she should come by at least before we head off to D&B.

Ah, then maybe I should meet y'all at the hotel. Don't wait for me if I'm not there, though. I'll meet up at one place or the other depending on the weather.
I posted the following in the social group thing, but don't know if anyone checks it. Mark, I also posted a link to Aurora Farms outlet mall, 'cause you were asking about an alternative to Lodi.
And for you threading guys, you'll get a sneak peek (well, description) Wednesday night on a product announcement that I've been dying to tell you about. Maybe I can convince somebody into upgrading one of his favorite machines. ;)
See y'all then! I'll be the guy on the powder blue scooter!

Y'all aren't going to believe the reception the gang got when they arrived here at the plant this morning. There was a two-camera video crew set up, and two photographers. The bus pulled up at the main entrance to Ridge Tool, and as the attendees got out, they were greeted by applause and clapping from about 50-60 managers, vice presidents, the president of Ridge Tool, engineers, marketing people, advertising people, and more. We formed a funnel guiding them to the front door, and into the auditorium.
I wasn't at the presentation, but just now left the schoolhouse, where they are going through a range of product sessions with the marketing and engineering people responsible for each product line. Hands on demos, Q&A, etc were available.
The yard in front of the schoolhouse is set up with two large tents for lunch, and many other tents with products set up for display and for the competition. And there's a huhr banner on the front of the schoolhouse with the Ridgid Roundup image on it.
This has definitely been an all-out effort by Josh and the marketing/advertising team!
Last night was a blast, too, as we had a buffet and games at Dave & Busters, followed by Rick's shocker game in the hotel lobby, laser tag running all around the lobby (Josh killed me, even though I was trying to cheat. ;) ) and Jenga. Oh, and the sledge hammer was brought out without damage to furniture or anyone's nose. :)

The RIDGID roundup games are on their way until 4pm ... now you get to see the "real" professionals, and hell yeah there are a bunch of them!
:bravo:
btw, at those who want to see pictures, make sure you sit tight because Ridge cannot be held responsible for the behavior of some of them :p
(as this is my first post here, I'm actually Josh 's counterpart for Ridge in Europe, just fyi)

I met Jan last night, and he's a good guy! We were pretty evenly matched at pool. (both not so good... ;) )
Robert told me that you'd mentioned my post on the activities, Mrs. WC. He said he forgot to mention the welcoming committee, and you already knew about it. :) That's me, your Johnny on the spot reporter!
I didn't get to stay for the games, but I saw the results posted. Sounded like I missed quite a competitive afternoon! I'll let Josh or the winners post their results so as not to spoil the news.
I have no idea how many photos have been taken already, but everyone has cameras, as well as Ridge Tool's videographer and photographer. There must be *thousands* waiting to be posted. I've made a conscious effort to avoid the photographers. I've seen what happens when your photo get posted on teh Interwebs! :D
(Oh, and Joey; you were talking about the white Triumph across the street from the main entrance? No, mine is 20 years older than that, and is an MG. See it and the girls in the photo linked in my sig. Just click on the red car for large images.)
Everyone will soon be heading out to Swings and Things for more food, games, go karts, laser tag, and more. So far the weather has held off, although it is hot and humid.
That's the latest!

There really was not a drum versus sectional competition as it was just a straight shot and nothing fancy. The winner of the drum machine competition was not a plumber or a drain cleaner he is a Steam Plant Operator,
The grand prize winner with 3-wins under his belt was Plumber Rick.
The drum machine winner was SteamOperator.
The winner of the K-1500 was PlumberCrack.
Robert won a contest which I'm not sure I can share with you yet.
Josh, Arrons friend won the locator contest.
and I'm not sure about the other competitions.

You guys are just jealous. My hubby kicked butt in the competitions! He won 3 of the 9 competitions and the overall award. The Ridge guys are mailing them back for us. There were too many to take back in our luggage.
Yes the drum did beat the k-60 in the specific application that the contest entailed. But guess who won that contest-none of the drain guys either! It was Mark's steamfitter son-in-law.:joyful: He just threw the cable down the line without even turning the machine on and kicked some butt with pure centrifical force!
Fred, The President of Ridge went on record to say that he was a K-60 man!:way-to-go:
Overall, the young guys lost! So experience pays! (or is it pride?)

lets set the record straight, i purposely used the k-60 as i already knew that everyone else was using the drum for this contest.
you had to push approx 35' into a 4'' line and use the supplied cutter to cut through a 1/2'' thick sound board.
originally they wanted me to assemble the 3- 15' sections and load them into the k-60 guide hose. while the drum guys already had the cable in their machine. not really a fair start as the machines were already at the clean outs and not in the truck or upstairs in the school house.
so they compromised and allowed me to pre load the cable. but not chose the cutter choice. the cutter that was used is a cutter i never use on either machine.
by the way, i beat lots of other drum times. just not the winning drum time. so if you think you can clean a drain in 6 seconds from start to finish you all are wrong. 6 seconds is not a drain cleaning contest of any real scenario. it's was how fast you can throw cable out of the machine down the line and punch a hole in a 1/2'' sound board.
now make us wheel or carry the machine from the school house or parking lot and see who can get it started up and running first.
this was not really a test that i/ we expected.
so go ahead and gloat as even the ceo of ridge tool is on record as saying the k-60 is his machine of choice.
not to mention the k-60 is the #1 sold drain machine in belgium.
didn't see the 7500 drum compete in the board cutting contest that bill/ crack won.

lets set the record straight, i purposely used the k-60 as i already knew that everyone else was using the drum for this contest.
you had to push approx 35' into a 4'' line and use the supplied cutter to cut through a 1/2'' thick sound board.
originally they wanted me to assemble the 3- 15' sections and load them into the k-60 guide hose. while the drum guys already had the cable in their machine. not really a fair start as the machines were already at the clean outs and not in the truck or upstairs in the school house.
so they compromised and allowed me to pre load the cable. but not chose the cutter choice. the cutter that was used is a cutter i never use on either machine.
by the way, i beat lots of other drum times. just not the winning drum time. so if you think you can clean a drain in 6 seconds from start to finish you all are wrong.
Of course....he is the ceo...he has to say that...of course he won't say he likes any other machin better:eek:
not to mention the k-60 is the #1 sold drain machine in belgium.
didn't see the 7500 drum compete in the board cutting contest that bill/ crack won.
no rick did not win the snaking contest, but did come up a close 2nd in the board cutting k-1500 test.
i was too busy smoking all the young guys.
#1 propress maze.
#1 lag bolt driving contest.
#1 hand threading contest.
#1 overall contest winner.
won 3 of 9 events.
so now you know the rest of the story.
if you can dish it out, can you take the truth:way-to-go:
rick.
It's ok...no one is mad at the sectional:hug:

K-60 is the king of versatility and you all know it. Who cares about some silly artificial contest. Rick owns a bunch of drum machines and still prefers the K-60. Faster isn't everything. Like rick said, the drum's started at the cleanout, but in real life they have to be unloaded off the truck and often then rolled into homes or downstairs into basements.
My back prefers the sectionals anyday!:nanner:

Now if every home I went to had a cleanout outside by the driveway...then I'd sell my k-60 and get a drum machine as they are obviously faster, but that just isn't the case by far in my neck of the woods.

Rick was actually next fastest-with the drum. The object was to run the cable with a simple spear hear through a line and pierce a piece of sound board. Really it did not occur to anyone other than the winner to shove the cable down the line and rely on centrifical force. He din't turn the machine on. You can't tell me that was a true test of your beloved drum:lovie:

How many tries did each contestant get?
The winner got two tries but it was because his first try was 7-seconds and they felt he did something wrong so he had to do it a second time. The second timed he did it in 6-seconds. The real contest was more about how fast can you peel cable out and shove it down a 4" piece of pipe 40' long. There was no set up and no "drain cleaning skills" involved. Not to take anything away from the winner as he is my son-in-law but it would have been nice to have had a real contest.

You forgot to mention that all the cable for the K60 was already put together, and so where the guide tubes.
So the competition couldve went like this. Both guys pull up in van, take machines off truck, walk over to the staged area and get set up. Then clear the clog.
K60 still wouldve have gotten beat, due to down time.
It was to easy of a competition, but then again , thats why im a drum guy :D

Shame on you, thats yer family!
Kidding...from what I heard, that about sums it, no real test of skill...just raw speed with little motor co-ordination.
My guess is that next time they'll beef up the stakes and gear it more towards real time drain cleaning.
I'm just psyched to hear Ben earned the right to talk smack 'bout arm wrestling, I've come to know him as a gentle guy, but I wouldn't go picking any fights with him anytime soon.
As for the K-60, sounds like it has it's place in applications where a drum may be too cumbersome, but as I have learned a vast amount from this forum about machines, it doesn't sound like the cure-all.
From what I've learned it could be the perfect get-up for guys who don't do main lines all day and don't want the hassle of dragging a drum through peoples homes.

Well things are quickly coming to an end here in Ohio. Today Ridgid treated us to the amusement park "Cedar Point". A great time was had by all but we all need a little time off now. Tonight we will all meet for one last group dinner than tomorrow have one last group breakfast before we all head for home. This was truly a great experience and all of the employees (literally hundreds of them) at Ridgid made us feel at home. Whomever was not able to make it this years needs to try and calendar it in for next year.

Beating Rick to the punch. At Cedar Point, he challenged me to a "ring the bell" contest with a sledgehammer. His self esteem was so low at that point that I decided to let him try to regain his dignity. He did beat me at the game with a top score of 105 points vs my score of 77 but keep this in perspective. The game is rigged as a little girl came up and scored 150. The next contest will be "tent stake driving".
Rick is a trooper. He has no joy on amusement rides but he couldn't wouss out. He grimly went on every ride holding on for dear life as 9 year old girls laughed and pointed at him. He never gave up so I take my hat off to him.

butt kicked, i think not. go carts was more like a blocking contest. there was more whistle blowing than racing. i got spun out 1 time as we were all caught in the turn.
you might want to rethink the bating cage as i hit 11 of 12 balls to your 6 of 12 misses:D
bumper boats was more of a squirt gun contest as the boats were slower than slow and with a dead battery, dead in the water. we all got wet, some wetter than others.
