View Full Version : Roundup Highlight Video
This really only has Thursday in the highlights but still a quick glimpse of the happenings at the RIDGID Roundup. Its the same clip we showed on Friday at the Roundup for those of you who came. We had to swap out the music so we could display it publicly. Old music was much better.

Great job JOSH!!! Wish i could have been there!! It looked like rick almost got knocked out during the pipe threading contest. I'll bet there was a couple of close calls with that one!

I think extra credit should be given for that. In the field the foreman would send you home for the casual removal of die heads I saw at the competition. It was pretty obvious at the competition who had spent some time threading and who had not. I'm sure next year will be much a better competition because people would have practiced techniques. I guarantee Rick will be under a minute next year.
Mark
We already have ideas for competitions we can switch up. K1500 will stay regardless. Seems like everyone loved that one.

The one thing the videos will not show is all of the fun we had at the hotel and non "official" gatherings. I'm already shopping for air flight deals for next year.

I think the cut and thread competition should also involve some fitting assembly, (at least cap the ends) and then an airtest to see if it hold pressure....it looks like it just brute speed without any skill.
I'll make an effort to come next year. It sounds like a good time.

Pretty much all of the competition was about speed more than skill but you did have to be able to screw a fitting on at the end of the threading competition to show it was properly threaded.

I am not so interested anyway in fanning my ego in competition bragging (like someone we all know:p) as I am in meeting my new e-friends in person. I'm sure that alone would be worth the trip.

LOL-I wouldn't worry as he feeds off himself. Some have talked about having a contest with real plumbing skills but the problem is , time require and what code would it be judged under. The way it was, everyone had the opportunity to be introduced to tools they may have never used and a good time was had by all. I look forward to meeting you at next years event.

funny part is i was the one that had the most to lose as i was the one that promoted the roundup and put out the challenge.
look at all the crap i took over the k-60 and 7500 cable tossing and arm wrestling ben:D
the best excuse i heard was that i had more years of experience:D
ya, but i also had much younger guys chasing me too.
just be glad it was on 1 thread on 1'' pipe. originally i suggested 2 threads on 2'' pipe. but the smaller guys would not have had enough push.
honestly i felt the threading competition was the highlight. it was a race using all you had. it was also the last event and i was the last one to do it.
oil was all over the blacktop, and peoples shirts.
and on spectators that were too close when aaron was competing:D
the 1500 board buster was also a great event. bill/ crack pulled it off also as the last competitor of that event and on his 2nd. try. this was not a brute force event, but more of a technique/ skill event. proper pressure and feed was important.
others were fun, but these 2 were spectators events.
i'm thinking up some new events for next time. there are many events that are not practical based on time and cost to construct.
the board buster was $45. a cutter and they used plenty.
copper maze had plenty of scrap generated$$.
ridgid spent money like it was water.
everything was beyond belief. truly it took dozens of ridgid employees hundreds of hours to pull off this event. not to mention the hundreds of employees that came to play and participate.
thanks to all that made it possible for us to have fun:D

I doubt they would do the same events. Some people would practice ahead of time to beat existing times. I'm not pointing fingers or anything but I may just be looking at one of those people right now:p

there was not 1 event i practiced. but now with bragging rights on the line and i'm the target, i might fine tune some events.
1500 requires a special jig to operate.
i guess i'll have to make that jig:idea:
and next time you sit on cold porcelain, i'm out practicing the toilet seat horseshoes:eek:
and when your tires are missing. i'm practicing the lag bolt contest:rolleyes:
no need to practice the copper maze, as i was amazing:D

Bill won fair and square by taking advantage of the rules or lack there of which is the same thing Rick did. Overall a great time was had by all and to the victors goes the spoils splintered or not. Long live King Bill of the K-1500.
