I have noticed lately that people have been posting about donating to worthy causes. I got the ok from Josh to post this thread. I thought it would be nice to have a spot to go to if people wanted to donate to a non-profit.
I will start with giving you information about the one I have worked at for the last 9 years. :)
www.gramercyhousinggroup.org
It is a transitional housing facility for homeless, emancipated single parents 18-24 years old with one child under 5. It is a 2 year program. The families live at our center in single apartments, pay minimal rent, and participate in a mandatory savings program. During their stay we provide them with free childcare in our licensed, on-site facility, parenting classes, life skills classes and case management.

Joey,
We have a lot of fun on this site but I would like to thank you for the work you do for these young ladies. Hopefully the intervention you provide will help to main stream them into society at a level they could never achieve on their own. :bravo:

we have a homeless shelter by us and when we get a free turkey with our points from our grocery store we give it to them .we also make a donation to them for there holiday dinner . we take all our old clothes to them .
it is nice to help them out with the little things we can give them it is a big thing to them
so im with Joey if you have a little extra cash to help a non-profit organization ,it will help them out a lot and will make you feel good that you did help some one

I believe it is important to serve others at whatever level you can. Perhaps that is why all of my kids and most of my kid-in-laws have been in civil service. We also donate above the taxable donation level because we are able to and believe it is important to do so if you have the means. However, there are many other ways to help. Between Brenda and I we spend several hundred nights each year in hotels. Because we bring our own toiletries we collects all of the freebie hotel stuff and every year take a couple of large boxes of sorted toiletries to our homeless shelter. In addition while Jaysen was in Iraq he adopted a school so every couple of months Brenda sent a dozen or so boxes to the school full of supplies. Part of it we paid for but to our surprise when the owners of the stores found out what we were doing they would donate some of their own. We also watch for end of the season clearance sales of tents and telescopes to give to a variety of youth groups. My daughter Jana will shop for stuff for her girls. When she finds a good deal she will buy one for her girls and one for the shelter. All of the above takes very little effort but often means a lot to those who have so little.

The charity that I donate to is http://www.samaritanspurse.org/
after working with them over a period of 18 months in Mississippi after Katrina; the work they did was unbelievable. Not only the repairs and cleanup; but their genuine concern for the people.
I also, contribute annually to their Operation Christmas Child program
