View Full Version : My Jetter tried to kill me

I was called out to a job that I use to use my K-7500 on. I thought I`d try the jetter as it`s a real hard place to get to. You have to back about a 1/4 mile down a little path covered with trees.
Well I had to work about 20` from the C/O`s as a tree had fallen right on the path.
I pulled a little to much hose out of the C/O when I was back jetting and it took off like a Rocket! I liked to crap my pants ducking the hose while it was in flight.
Damn thing was trying to get me before I could get it shut down.....rotflmao :killingme:

Lucky. There was someone that worked for one of the Municipalities that got killed from there truck jetter. Same thing as what happened to you. Those jets for the cities are big chunks of metal on the end of a whip.
And I think he was wearing a hard hat. You might have to do some Googling but it's true.
Anyway, glad you're ok. And a great reminder to us all of when we get on that edge of safe, but we're trying to get done, to slow down and be able to go home.

you really need a bright orange leader hose. a remote control shut off, a foot valve, a high pressure ball valve or a helper.
try painting/ taping some bright colors on the last 10' or so of your hose.
i made a remote control shut off for my big jetter that i can control from 200' away.
my smaller jetters i use a foot valve or a spray wand.
all my hoses are properly marked for footage and safety.

I'm glad you didn't get whipped bad with the flying hose. They hit hard and dig in. YEEEEEOUCH is a mass understatement.
Anyway, Rick has a great idea of the bright color leader hose. If not that, then some way to color code the last 5 or 10 feet.
This reminds me of a painter that had the hose bust on his pressure washer. Let's just say I heard a few words that I don't think I've ever heard before. He just took off running as the hose whipped all over the place. Finally someone (Police officer in the area) took a shot with a 30_06 rifle and shot the tip of the spark plug off. Engine stopped. The *&^%$#@ came to an end and while there was property damage, no one was hurt other than in ego.

It was really strange how it all went down (or) OFF if you may ;)
I saw it pop out of the C/O and started to reach for the water cut-off, it was like slow motion. I heard a noise and looked up as it just missed my head by inches. I started to run then heard it hitting the truck like a hammer. I ducked down real low in a full run (( Like that was gonna do something...lol )) Dove inside the back of the truck and hit the key and grabbed the water cut off lever at the same time. Seem like it took for ever but I bet it didn't....lol
I remember it laying on the ground before it took flight and didn't think much about it other then shut it off but it took flight and I was lost after that..... Wild stuff I tell ya, wild stuff.
You never stop learning if your working ;)

We`v been working on getting the real specs but it was to be a 3000PSI @ 7GPM
according to a published formula,
h.p. required =(psi x gpm / 1100) gas engine #'s
3,000 x 7 = 21,000/ 1,100= 19.09 h.p:eek:
2,500 x 7 = 17,500/ 1,100= 15.9h.p.;)

If your so good at the numbers game tell me what PSI I have at the real with the 2650 @ 7GPM nozzle set up I`m running now??? I have the RED Spring on the unloader ;)
I hope to have the RPM numbers tomorrow but I can tell you that we are both way off with the equipment that I`m using to test everything. I mean way off!!!!
Looks like I might have the wrong pump and it`s doing crazy things. The builder is working to try and help figure out what went wrong with the build of this unit.
I`m thinking a bigger motor and this thing may be a killer set-up if it`s the wrong pump?????

A debate with Rick will go on forever ;) You should know that ;)
I`ve been wondering the same thing so we started testing a few things.
So far all the builder can come up with is it might have the wrong pump on it??? After I get all the info then we will know one way or the other. It`s hard to be the tester and do my work at the same time so I have to do a little at a time. I thought he sent me the wrong nozzles but that`s not the case so we have to figure out if the pump is mismarked???
All I know is it`s not right or even close to right but it will fly through the air like a rocket

there is no debate. i told you when you first bought your jetter from ebay that the numbers didn't add up.
you never having owned 1 jetter disagreed. myself owning 8 or more (lost count) know from experience that 16 h.p will only deliver so much psi and so much gpm. you can't have it both. but if i were to chose one over the other, i would take higher gpm over higher psi.
as mark said, let the guy who sold you the machine figure it out. you're not the only one he sold this too. he overrated the specs and is not going to give you 3000# at 7 gpm with that engine.

I found a Honda 18hp and I`m thinking I may have to do an engine change and figure out how to slow the GPM down. slowing down the gpm's is as easy as slowing down the rpm's.
i always set my rpms by watching the psi. once i max out my psi, i stop advancing the throttle.

Mark those numbers are still way off ;)
With the new gage and the testing we are doing it`s not even close to being right. I have to see how many gallons I`m bypassing and at what rpm`s to figure our whats going on. This might have a 8gpm pump on it and if so thats the problem.
Have you tried using a 10gpm tip? To see if that cuts down on the bypass. If a bigger tip helped you could have some custom tips made to 8GPM.

Tell me about yourself so I can try and understand what your about ;)
I`ll even give you a rundown on where and what I`m about ;)
Then maybe you`ll understand me a little better????
I definitely don't want to leave the forum. But I was thinking maybe you're right and I was "post whoring" and screwing up the forum. Or maybe you were screwing it up some... so let the masses decide.
Maybe I haven't made a useful post. I'll try to make less or better ones. If I'm not voted off the island. :D
I champion success for all good people! :) Makes me happy when they are succeeding.
If you know twice+ what I do, why are you responding to someone like me?
Maybe we just can't learn from each other.
I don't need or want to know anything else about you. Or you me because as you stated you know twice+ what I do.
If you're living an ethical life, wish you nothing but success.
J.C.
P.S. "Can you handle it?" meant can you handle leaving for life? :)

I believe it would be "voted out of the supply house" rather than "voted off the island". However, as you know the bylaws of the "Smelly Old Plumbers and Drain Cleaners" prevents such votes so you guys will have to learn to tolerate each other.

All Clear and Rick,
Sorry for starting this argument. It seems like the whole thing started when I asked for specs. I was just curious since I will probably end up buying one in the future and just wondering what type All Clear had.
Again, sorry about this :(

No need to apologize for other peoples inadequacies in life.
Steve, that was a joke. J.C. I figure you know that's a joke.

I know, it`s just hard to turn loose of the money when I have already spent so much this year.
I never thought I did that much work but from what others are telling me I guess I must do alot more then I was thinking.
I always thought a machine would last 5 to 10 years????
Maybe I need to slow down

Of course when your machine is the life of your business you can't be without one. An example is you are a racer yet I doubt you would head to the race without some spare parts.

remember who your talking to.
i have both a brand new 7500 and 750 still in the box.
along with a new k-60 that's only mixed up 1 milkshake.
then there are still the used 750's and 7500, spartan 300, and a couple of general drum machines all sitting idle.
amazing what a k-60,k-1500 and k-50 replaced.
so save your pictures as i would run out of film snapping all my spare tools.
p.s. it's about time you spent $2500. on a tool that makes you money.
rick.

I hate to say it but to the un-indoctrinated they may think you are talking about birth control. You may want to help out with a link.
