Redline level. Lenox makes a copy now. I have one from Sears that works well.

the ridgid level is a regular torpedo level
i cant go by a quqrter bubble or a half a bubble
i need to be able to pitch 1/4" per foot exactly
the level i had, had a clamp on the end of 4' level
the clamp would raise the one end 1" (1/4" per foot)
and when the center bubble was dead level i know i
had exactly 1/4" per foot

work if i cant find the graduated clamp for the 4' level

If your looking for a small level the Ridgid torpedo level now does have 1/8" - 1/2" calibration marks marked right on the bubble of the level, I just bought one a few weeks ago. If your looking for a 2' - 4' level, sorry I don't know of any.

Tape a 1" block on the end of your 4' level. You can also drill and tap a bolt in the end to give you an adjustable slope.

If you already have a good level that's 4 feet long, you can put a 1/2" think shim under one end. That will make it into a 1/4" per foot level and it's cheap. This is assuming the main vial is in the center which normally it is. A 2 foot level would use a 1/4" think shim under one end.

Why would a 4" level use a 1/2" shim instead of a 1" shim and a 2' level use a 1/4" shim instead of a 1/2" shim?

It would seem that if you have a 1" shim on a four foot, level that you would get the 1/4" per foot drop. The logic I'm using here is essentially that you have two level points (at each end of the level), and you know that one of those points is the shim heightlower than the other one. So your drop should be shim height/level length.

Keyword RADIUS

You are going from the center of the main vial in the level. On a 4 foot level that would be only 2 feet out to the end. On a 2 foot level it's 1 foot to the end.

Rather than anyone going crazy it really is best to buy the proper level and be done with it. My half mule method is only a last resort.
How are you going to get that bottom of the level right at the center vial even with a pipe? The level is going to be on the same horizontal plane across its entire length. Thus, if you want a certain drop over the length of the level, you need to have a shim the same size as that drop.
