I hope this works out as a poll but also feel free to add your own comments.

Everyone has a favorite place to get Pizza. What's your's?

I've found that location really does matter when it comes to big chain places.

Personally I like a small little dumpy place near me where they really make great pizza and subs.
They have been in business a long as I can remember and they are always packed. Eat in or take home

You must be high! :) Lot's of places make GREAT pizza throughout the U.S.
But I have to say that I like the "NY Style" the best and I prefer local places with an Italian connection.

Chicago style is fine if you like lasagna. But that ain't pizza. :D

Used to be Ledo's (Pizza of the Gods) but lately it's Montereys Gourmet Pizza just up the road

Which reminds me...what do you all tip for a $20 pizza delivery?

Depends on if there is a delivery charge, but usually $1 or $1 + rounding up to a dollar.

We don't get delivery around here.... but when I used to get delivery, I'd tip them at least 15%. It's their car they drive to your place. Think of the gas and wear and tear. At LEAST give them what a waitress would get!

In this area, I go to either Focaccia or Mario's. Focaccia's is better IMO. Both are small and local. Every once in a while I'll be by Ledo's in Winchester and pick up a pie on the way home.

To be fair MasterP, I haven't been to NY to give an "expert" opinion.:o Didn't even know there was a "NY Style" until I watched a whole thing about it on the Food Channel when I had satellite.

NY style to me is that the dough is made with the right ingredients, thin, HOT oven, toppings you want. Crust makes the difference to me. Chains haven't been able to produce it. I can find a few local places that look to make it the NY way and advertise as such. Those are the ones I like best.

They also showed how the true Italian way is with almost no tomato sauce. Something about Certified Neapolitan Pizza was mentioned.

That's some good PIZZA!:eek::eek: (Hypnotized)

Local Pizza joint is the best. As far as this NY statement, you can't judge that its the best when you haven't tried them all. I have been all over the US, Hawaii and Alaska, and every place has a decent pizza joint....

Seriously though. New York pizza is overrated. I lived in new york for years. The best pizza is brick oven baked with spring-water dough. The make some downtown here that is amazing. Also I had some brick-oven pizza in Providence, Rhode Island that was amazing, it was 7 years ago and I still remember it. (at the time I was living in New york, and the pizza was better than any I had before)

Until you try the original pizzeria Regina in the south end of Boston, that argument has no merit.

I will say that in the Boston area, there are a number of Greek owned mama/papa shops that I generally don't like..might be the cheese, might be the sauce, but it's nothing like a real Italian pizza.

Check for delivery fees that are automatically added. Domions and Papa John's now add them and many times don't tell you if you call in the order. Online you can see it. I normally base it (the few times I call in for pizza) on the traffic, weather and what the driver is like. Some of their people should be paying me for allowing them on my property. Long story there _____ Then others really go out of their way and deserve a good tip.

Got any info on how this is done? I have a webber, i make and toss my own dough, and spice my own sauce. I think a webber pizza sounds good.

On a grill, I use a pizza pan or stone. Can't place it directly on the grate because you have to get the temps up but the coals are in close proximity. Coat the dough with olive oil. I find cooking any meats a littl before gives better results. Just put them in a cast iron skillet on the grill then transfer to the pizza for finish grilling. Sauces and everything else is up to the person. I'll try anything.

That wasn't NY pizza you had, you had Long Island pizza. Theres a difference. Go have a slice from Peppino's on 241 st. in the Bronx, or Joes Fleetwood Pizza in Mt. Vernon, or Johnny's Pizza in Mt. Vernon. Thats real pizza. Not some redneck from NC flipping frozen pizza dough with catsup and american cheese :happy-birthday:

Stew Leonards has some real nice food but I have a ongoing problem with their steaks. They sell the whole piece of meat such as the entire NY strip or rib eye which they butcher into steaks as however thick you want them. Problem is they are not pretrimmed and you are paying for a lot of fat. Recently my wife was in a hurry to buy some steak for a family cook out and wnet to Stews. I convinced her to just get the whole piece of meat and bring it home so I could slice it into steaks. When I got done I had three pounds of fat at $7.99 a pound. I put it right back into the original wrapper and went back to Stews where I told a manager at the customer service desk that $24.00 of waste was excessive. He gave me a store credit for $25.00. Not a bad story and nice of the guy , but they still make a killing selling this untrimmed meat. The store is too pricey for my liking. They sell some cut of steak for $25 a pound, man for that kind of money it better slice itself and feed me.

I grew up in New England...mostly Vermont. My parents are originally from Long Island, NY. I love it here in the mountains of North Carolina though. Give it a visit sometime. The Great Smokey National Park is a huge attraction on the NC/Tennessee border. I've been there once and saw some baby bears digging by the side of the road. We also have the highest U.S. peak east of the Mississippi. I have always loved mountains.

How about a good sub? You know the kind....heart-murdering amounts of cheese and grease. Good steak, maybe some lettuce (that makes it healthy), mayo and options like eggs and bacon (for the breakfast steak sub). MMMMmmmmmmmm I need to get out to Mario's! They do have good subs, but I miss Mike's out in Reston. Real subs should ooze onions and drip grease.

BHD, that's some fine lookin meat you got there! :D Grass-fed, no extra antibacterial feed or steroids. Yum!! That's what makes living out here in the sticks worth it. I can order a half a cow from a local farmer and fill my freezer with some of the finest tasting well-aged beef I've ever had.
