IKEA furniture "wood" source?

All,

Checked out the IKEA store nearby - their furnitures look great, but made of cheap melamine. I am in the hook to make a couple of bookshelves that look as good as IKEA for the Mrs as that's the only way I coudl stop her from paying $250 for a sheet of melamine ;)

Any ideas where I can buy different shades of melamine (HD only carries White nowadays) in the SF bay area?

I want to avoid PB and doing the laminate myself. looks like a lot of work (and $$)

I always build my bookshelvevs out of 10 or 12 inch yellow pine stair treads. The wood is fairly cheap always straight is already bullnosed and a full 1 inch thick. And it finishes nicely with stain and waterbased varnish.
