Effect of open trench on locating

How will a open trench running parallel to the pipe being located effect my Navitrack performance? The pipe we are locating is 5 feet deep but we have a trench 3 feet deep and 3 feet away from the pipe that many be effecting the accuracy of our location by concentrating the signal closer to the trench thus miss location the pipe. Is what we are observing correct?

In very conductive soil an open trench MAY have a very slight effect on the tracing lines. I would check though for another line under the open trench or pothole to be be sure that the line you are tracing has not made a change in direction underground.
