if i were to remove the hamer anvil off my impact wrench , would it still give me any torque ? if not , is there any way to get high torque rotary motion without the 'impact':confused::)

Are you by any chance trying to drive large or long lag screws in wood? If yes, a geared down big spade handle or D handle drill and an adapter which has a hex shank on one end and a square end with ball to drive sockets on the other end should help you.

Please leave your impact wrench as-is if it's in good working order.

As Woussko suggested a big portable drill,

the impacts are not that torque-y in the motor they operate by speed and the impacting of the hammer on the anvil, and the faster they hit the anvil in side the more "torque they produce, part of the harder hit is do to centrifugal force so faster more torque.

(one quick side note: they talk about a chuck that one can use on an impact wrench, IT will not make it into a good hammer drill or really much of any kind of drill, IMO, about the only time I think there of much value is when you are needing to drill for lag screws/bolts and drive them and one can use the same tool. I bought a similar chuck to " make it into a hammer drill and the impact wrench hits "side ways" not "up and down" as a hammer drill does. and IMO it does not work near as good as a hammer dirll does, even a cheap one, (unless they have some thing in the chuck to hammer better than jsut a chuck),
In my opinion the web site on the chuck "impact hammer drill" is mostly sales, and spin. (sears at one time sold chucks for impact wrenches).

I think if you took the "hammer/s" out the nose of one I do not think the "anvil" or the square drive would even turn.

Impact drivers generate very little rotary torque. I don't think they even have any significant gear reduction. All the torque is generated by the anvil.

:)thanks , no i'm not trying too screw lag bolts or such, i am actually trying to power my bicycle !!:help:

my suggestion is to find some kind of kit and at lest get the specifications off of it, or jsut buy it, and attach it to the bicycle, but by getting the specifications, you can "copy" the idea, the motors HP RPMs the drive, etc, that way you will more than likely end up with some thing that is at lest workable, for your efforts,

Bicycles have a great advantage they had a huge wheel normally, and if one can make a small drive wheel that will friction drive it, you have a large gear reduction thus you can work with a reasonably high speed motor with out a lot of gear reduction,
