If you want to do it yourself
I did my website with yahoo. You can pick your domain name, and they host your site for only $12.95 per month.
Then download Yahoo's free "Sitebuilder" program to create the website pages.
It took me a while to figure things out, though.
For the Domain Name:

For Web Hosting:

This is the result I got:

Vince I did mine by myself for $50 to start and they charged $10 a month to host it on GO Daddy.com I think it came out pretty good but took me probaly 40 total hours to make it but you could do a one page site in a day if you get the hang of it.....http://PlumbingParamedics.com

I created my site via godaddy's website tonite. It cost me $58.00 a year to design and hosting. Very user friendly and does the trick. Check out my site.

You can make static pages so it will look like a real website and not a blog on wordpress.com

Or you can do it for FREE. Microsfot office live (http://smallbusiness.officelive.com/)
Funny!
The word free appears twice within 3 inches of the pricing options.

I just built a web site on OfficeLive and it was really easy. My new domain name (when approved) will be www.MAYAssoc.com.

I think GoDaddy is a great place to start your first website. They have many tools you can use. Seems your site is up and running in a few hours. Plus their prices can't be beat!

Godaddy and Yahoo seem to get a lot of praise for their ease of use. Design of a website is a tricky thing. It's one thing to get the hosting and your domain name. It's quite another to come up with a good design.
Keep it clean, make your menus the same from page to page. Don't get caught up in all the blinky light flash add-ons, they only take up bandwidth and make your site look too busy. You want people to pay attention to the content, not the blinky lights! Some flash animation is good, just don't overdo it.
My site is designed around my customers, many of whom are on dial-up. I've made it VERY simple so there's not a lot of download the customer has to wait for.
