9 gal ridgid compressor help

I just purchased a used compressor with the 5.5 honda wheelbarrow style.when the tanks fill the unloader kicks out but the engine rmp stays constant.What could cause this?Is it supposed to drop to idle?

post your model number, from the unloader there is either a cable or a pneumatic tube that goes to the throttle control on engine, watch the engine end when the unloader kicks out to see if it moves
