View Full Version : locating inside of blk iron
Have any of yall ever tried to locate your camera head while inside a blk iron pipe. just curious, had to try it the other day, it did not work well. I dont know if it had to do with the blk iron or the heavy plastic coating on the pipe.

The signal from the transmitter can not escape the inside of the pipe. RF does not penetrate steel very well, especially at the low levels used for locating. The pipe wall captures most of the signal and takes it to ground.

works great with a 512hz. transmitter as installed in the seesnakes.
i once tried a ductile iron fire main and struggled to get an accurate signal. same so with a copper water line.
