I have planed down some reclaimed maple from a basketball court and used it on a few stairs in my house. Finishes are not my strong point and I would appreciate any input as to what finish would be best to give the stairs a nice hard and durable coat. I have some varathane but I have a feeling it is not hard/durable enough. Also, I was considering mixing a bit of silica sand in it for traction as opposed to using those ugly traction strips. Any input is appreciated! Thx.
