Rockler Crosscut Thread

But sorry, I have no experience with it (always build my own sleds).

Yea, that's it Bob D. Yea I could spend a day or two making my own or spend $150 and be done with so I can work on other things.

It sorta looks like an Incra 1000SE mounted to an MDF board.

While I dont have mine mounted on an MDF board, I do have the 1000SE and it surely can be used for cross cuts. The fence extends farther than the Rockler model too.

I have played with it and it is a very nice sled. I was at Rockler today and almost bought one. I plan to get one soon. The numbers are HUGE, and it is very easy to set this thing to half a degree increments or smaller. Getting the outfeed table ($30) is suggested. Sometimes, Rockler will run specials on the crosscut sled. In one of the specials, they toss in the outfeed table. Initially, you run each table along the miter track and the saw trims each piece to give you zero clearance along the MDF. Finally, the miter bar adjusters use Rockler's nice spring loaded ball bearings.

I also own the Kreg miter gauge and fence, and it is very nice. For bigger crosscuts, though, I plan to get the Rockler sled. Like you, I thought of building one myself, but I think the quality of the Rockler is excellent, and the test cuts that I mad with it felt very secure, not to mention accurate. For the price, I think it is a great jig.

I went ahead and got it with 15% off, also bought the Wixly angle finder (nice) and a Freud thin kerf 30T Rip blade. Saved $42. BTW Rockler sells the Freud blades for the same amount as Amazon - I was impressed.

LOL. Read the caption under the photo for the 1000SE on Rocklers' site, it says the fence extends from 18' to 31'. That is certainly longer than the Rockler model. You'd need a big shop to use that fence. :D
