TS2400 splitter question

I have a question concerning the splitter alignment. Since the splitter is not the same width of the blade what is the best position for the splitter. Currently I have my set up so the free side of the cut rids along the edge of the splitter and the fence side doesn't contact it. Is this the best orientation or should I try harder to get it right in the middle of the cut line.

Other side is better. The splitter's job is to help keep the stock off the back teeth of the blade on the fence side. It does that better if aligned with the fence side of the teeth.
