WD1665 with Detachable Blower

I'm a new ridgid wet/dry vac owner. This might seem like a dumb question but here goes! I purchased this a couple of months ago and have just today gotten around to using it in my shop. Is the blower suppose to be "blowing" when I am trying to vaccuum? I have looked in the manual and find no shut off for the blower. Is it me? or is this the way it's suppose to run.

This is common with any wet/dry vac. Whatever you do I do not recommend blocking this port. This exhaust of air helps circulate the air that cools the motor.
