last year i attempted to repair a leaking grohe deck mounted diverter valve. the tub spout needed to be removed and a new diverter cartridge installed. problem was there was no access in the marble apron to access the valve.

so i cut a 6'' x 10'' access for a panel and attempt to reach into the space 2' to reach the tub spout and all its connections. i did get it changed, but it still leaked:mad:

in the process i managed to get wedged and was really sore for days. ended up in the hospital a few days later thinking joey was going to sell off my goods:eek:

turns out to be a muscle spasms and not the big one;)

so the owner ordered a new complete setup as grohe doesn't sell the spout separately:confused:

this time i got smart and removed the toilet to help out with the space.

what i couldn't believe was that i actually managed to get it done last year without the toilet removed:bash:

now i look back and think wtf was i thinking:D

here's the finished pictures.

cheap toilet for a nice bathroom. l.a. requires low flow toilets when you sell. seller just put in cheap to clear escrow.

Did you put in the S.S. Flexes after the access panel was cut in? Or did the initial Installer?

Nice job regardless!

i replaced 2 that were twisted. the valve comes with them for the inlet and outlet. 4 pieces.

the owner had to buy the entire valve to get the spout assembly. grohe doesn't sell it as a replacement part:mad:

Wow that's been a year already.
I remember you telling us about it.
Without reading your description I was going to ask.
I'll bet it made for a much nicer day.

I'm only 5'4 and 120 lbs so it would be not too big an issue for me. I'm always the guy that goes into tight quarters, seeing as I am the smallest. One time i squeezed half my body through a 16" access cover from a step ladder sort of diagonally. Wow was that ever hard to get my shoulders in and out of, just had to do it one at a time ;) ah, the joys of plumbing :)
