Mentioned Ridgid should make one awhile back as those in the industry use them more & more.

Good idea. The voice memo feature would be handy. So much easier and faster to record 30 seconds or so of audio in place of scribbling down some notes.

Does Ridgid really need to sell cameras?

I say no, they should stick to their fine products they have now.

Just my opinion ;)

Cameras. Maybe not. Job Tough cameras-maybe so!

Got to be careful when "sticking to your companies fine products" and not
developing your line for market share and/or to lead the industry.

If Ridgid were to stick to what they've made, then we would never have seen:

The MicroExplorer
The ProPress
The MicroDrain
None of their battery tools
None of their woodworking tools
etc. etc. etc.

I see guys in all parts of the construction industry using digital cameras more and more in the past few years. Installers, inspectors, plumbers, excavation companies and others.

Just seems like a good thing for any tool maker to consider in todays times.

Even if it is just an "Add On" to a kit that matches batteries or included as an incentive to purchase.

we could get a different lens for our micro explorers and have a great camera and video recorder:thumbup2::idea2:

probably don't need the 3' extension, unless we need to spy around the corner:D

there you go j.c. you have your camera:rolleyes:

when we do service work and need to show the customer whats wrong they dont want to crawl into equipment to see so a picture is the way we go

we do commercial work only so to ask the CEO to stick ih head into a boiler to see the crack would be a NO NO

Maybe a combination of your idea and JCs, a rugged digital camera that could be used as the image or video recorder for a camera system. Something that looks and operates like a regular digital camera but has an aux input to receive video or when used as a display for a camera system could grab screen shots and save them as stills.

That sounds like a really neat idea, not to sure about using an aux input line though, seems a bit redundant. The newer digital image sensors are perfectly capable of taking both still and video images, many even do so in HD resolution.

If they do make a new MicroExplorer/Camera device, it would make more sense to create a interchangable lens system as JC suggested, a 3' extension for exploring, and a lens more suited for a point and shoot camera. This way you don't have to have 2 devices, just 1 with attachments.

Also if they could throw in some options like thermal imaging, and price it at half of what a stand alone thermal imaging system costs now, I'll start saving up for one :D
