Attaching butcher block top

I need to attach a butcher block
top to the kitchen island base made
from plywood. i would like to do a
minimal amount of drilling into the
top (it's really beautiful and I don't
want to hurt its feelings).
Do you have any suggestions for me?
Also, I read an online article that
suggests using 8-form fasteners -do
those allow for wood expansion/contraction?

the "8 form" or figure 8 fastners you speak of i believe are the best for this project.
