Shop Vac Problem

Hi All,
Just purchased a Ridgid WD1245 shop vac and for its maden voyage, tried to use it to vacuum out the fireplace. Unfortunately, well it sucks up the ashes, it also blows them right out the exhaust into my living room. Anyone got any suggestions?
