Is the motor housing isolated from the air flow path in the WD1635 vac? In other words, if the filter breaks down, will it allow debris to pass through the motor possibly decreasing its life?

On all RIDGID wet/dry vacs, the cooling air for the motor is a completely separate airstream from the vacuumed air.

If the filter breaks down, you won't do damage to the motor, but you can damage the impeller with the small particles that are in the air.

not only damages the impeller if the filter breaks down, the lower end bearings will get full of crud and fail early.
