What kind of cheap china crap is this stuff?? the bolts supplied with the ridgid wood lathe are not the greatest quality. I broke the heads off 3 bolts while trying to mount the motor on the lathe. I hope ridgid gets it right the next try. Ireplaced all bolts on my lathe with 1/4" and 5/16" carriage bolts from hardware store. i feel a lot safer with these.

Where were the bolts you bought at the hardware store made? Sounds to me like you might have over torqued them a bit.
Not necessarily. There have been far too many reports about failing fasteners on machinery made in China recently for it to be a coincidence. Perhaps someone is trying to make steel bolts and machine screws out of a rice derivative.
