1/2" cordless 18V drill "brakes"?

I have a 1/2" cordless. When I use it to start my lawnmower, the 'brakes' come on when the mower engine starts. This happens even when I keep the trigger fully squeezed. Is there a way to prevent this?

you need a new lawn mower.lol :D .but i think what is happening is when the mower starts the engine is then running faster than the drill and when that happens the breaks come on to regulate the drills speed.but just so i know why did you buy a $160 tool to start your $99 lawn mower?i am not teasing you though it is awful tempting

Funny how close you came to the price. lol It is a 1969 John Deere 21" push mower, I use it every couple of months to mow along an irrigation ditch where the tractor won't fit. I think the actual price in 1969 was $99 + tax. It starts with 5 or 6 pulls, but it is easier to just pop the drill on the flywheel nut & spin it up. But my new drill with the brakes doesn't work so well.
