Can the two differant 18 volt batteries
be used in the x2 drill and the standard
drill? Will both charge from the same charger?

Yes, and Yes.

However, remember the compact drill comes with the single port charger without the forced air cooling. The X2 pack, being higher capacity, will heat up a bit when charged. It may cut down on the life of the battery. A X2 battery in a single port charger will charge in 30 minutes, even though the charger says 20 minutes on the front of it, due to the higher capacity.
