Hello,
I purchased a MS1065LZ Miter Saw. I noticed in several stores 'big chunks' chipped out on both ends of the plastic throat when the first slot was cut. I am ready to cut the slot in mine and would like to know if there are any 'tricks' to prevent the 'chipping'...

BTW, this uncut plastic throat was one thing that almost kept me from buying this saw....

Thanks
Dave

actually take the trouble to cut real wood for your first cut.

It will force you to pace your cut and not take to big of a bite out of the plastic.

A scrap piece of plywood that is larger than the saws capacity would be an excellent choice.

I wonder if this insert plate is made of denser, more brittle plastic than the previous models to lessen the cost; and where we will see the quality issue suffer?

Woody:

I suspect that the plates are broken because Home Depot employees and patrons aren't concerned with treating the saw properly.
