how to support cast iron

it looks like i may have to cut out some cast iron pipe to fix a seeping problem. anyway the one side is a long vertical pipe that goes all the way up to the 2nd floor bathroom. i can see how to support the other tie ins, but what needs to be done for me to safely cut that single vertical pipe? (the ohter one feeds the 1st floor toilet which will be getting replaced . how do i support the other pipe to cut safely?

Try A 4" Riser Clamp they work well

ok. what if i have no way of getting this riser clamp on the pipe for support? the only access i have to it is under the basement floor where i have to cut. i was figuring on getting a metal strap, wrapping it tight around the pipe and screwing the bands to the floor?

Hey Ed! Normally the riser clamp attaches to the pipe on the floor before it goes through the floor. However, in a pinch, you can attach it underneath the floor and use lag bolts to secure the clamp in place. :cool:

Cast Iron pipe hangers should be spaced about every five feet.
