My dad wants to vent an undercabanit microwave through the wall, is it okay to have a screen over the vent to keep insects out? I am thinking it is fine since it only blows out hot air, and the filters remove a lot of the airborn particles.

yes you can put a screen on it a microwave it does not exaust out things like a dryer ,it is just heat. this is the same as a stove or oven exaust ,it is for heat and smoke.

Here's another tip. If you are venting smoke out of your microwave don't "nuke" the marshmallows for so long! :p :D :p
(just couldn't resist as my son "discovered" the microwave over the weekend.....)

Pick up the correct through the wall vent at HomeDepot. It has a spring flap on it already. It's approximately 3" X 14". You must rotate the blower on the microwave so it blows out the back. It then does not go through the filter (except for the lower remove-to-clean ones. Make sure he properly seals the vent to the wall to preclude grease from entering the wall cavity. I've found the foil type duct tape works best.
