Yesterday I was at my local lumber mill placing an order for a new project and I needed some rough maple planed on one edge (makes it very convenient to rip to width, then plane to thickness). After we left my friend said I should have ordered it "joined" on one edge. I know this is a little silly, but which of us was using the correct term?

Thanks.....

I believe the proper term is jointed, an operation performed on a jointer which squares and smooths a narrow edge to a wide edge. The smooth edge, usually the narrow edge, can then be used for safe ripping operations.
