Has anyone else made a mod like this?

I like to be able to see my cuts as they pass the blade and the whole guard thing just wasn't working. I tried this mod, cut some stock and it seems to work well.

Obviously not as good as a riving knife (doesn't raise and lower with the blade, but keeps the wood from binding just the same.

One of my favorite common sense stories.

From the BBC News Website.

Australia town bans bottled water

Campaigners say bottled water is bad for the environment
A rural town in Australia has voted overwhelmingly to ban the sale of bottled water over concerns about its environmental impact.
Campaigners say Bundanoon, in New South Wales, may be the first community in the world to have such a ban.
They say huge amounts of resources are used to extract, package and transport bottled water.
The discarded plastic bottles then end up as litter or go into landfill sites, the "Bundy on Tap" campaign says.
More than 350 residents turned out to vote at the public meeting in the town hall.
Only one resident voted against the ban, along with a representative from the bottled water industry, ABC news reported.
The BBC's Nick Bryant in Sydney says locals have promised not to set upon visitors if they ignore the ban, but they will be encouraged to fill a reusable container from water fountains in the main street.
The reusable bottles will bear the slogan "Bundy on Tap".
Campaigner John Dee said local opinion had been incensed when a drinks company announced plans to tap an underground reservoir in the town.
Environmental impact
"The company has been looking to extract water locally, bottle it in Sydney and bring it back here to sell it," he said.
"It made people look at the environmental impact of bottled water and the community has been quite vocal about it."
The ban has been supported by shopkeepers in the town, which has a population of about 2,500.
"We believe Bundanoon is the world's first town that has got its retailers to ban bottled water," said Mr Dee. "We haven't found it anywhere else."
New South Wales Premier Nathan Rees has backed the cause, ordering government departments to stop buying bottled water and use tap water instead.
Mr Rees says it will save taxpayers money and help the environment.

Installed a 50 gallon 60,000 btu power direct vent water heater from American water heater. All specs say to use only 3" duct and fittings. With 3" duct the water heater rattles horribly. AWH knew right away about the issue, says that the blower was pulling the flame off the burner. AWH suggested using a 3" to 2" reducer on the end of the exhaust. This fixed the problem, but I question the 2" restriction on a 60,000 btu model. Anyone have any experience or thoughts on what this reduction would have on the heater's performance?

Morning All,

I'm posting in this section since I am not an actual plumber. I work for a school system and we have several of these 2 pedal "Standard" faucets. My problem is that no matter what we try, the valves are leaking by and the faucet is running at a steady stream. Internet searches have turned up no information at all and replacing it with new equipment is an option that I wish to use as a last resort. Can anyone point me in a direction that might provide some information on this old beast? Obviously has hot and cold stubs coming into seperate valves from the floor, then right angles to the pedal operated valves. The supply valves coming from the floor do have shutoff's on the top to allow for the operating portion of the valve to removed. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I have the four top to cabinet screws and the ground strap loose, I still can't quite get it, as I'm off by about a 16th of an inch front to back. The blade is at 90 and is straight. The only way I can get it perfect is if I totally remove the screws and then they won't go back in. Has anyone had to drill out the holes on the cabinet to allow additional movement? Am I missing anything? I got good grades in school, but that was primarily because I sucked up to the teachers really well....

My explanation for the explosion is that once the tree got hot it started releasing vapour and methane. Fire provided ionization needed to sustain the long arc, and then methane and air reached an explosive mix proportion. The arc ignited the methane mix. Explosion destroyed the arc (due to chem reaction and air displacement) and the process started over. I honestly hoped for the trunk to explode into splinters like after the lightning strike :(

Hi, guys, first post, hope this isn't a taboo subject.

Is there a Shelix head currently in production that will fit my TP1300? I know a Shelix head is made for the new Ridgid portable planer, as well as the DW 735 and the DW 734. I understand that the head for the DW735 will not fit the TP1300. I believe the heads on the TP3100 and the new Ridgid planer are not interchangeable, but I'd appreciate it if someone here could confirm that. How about the cutting heads of the DW734 and the TP3100?

The TP1300 has been a great machine for me, but I'm spoiled by the Shelix head in my jointer. I work mainly with highly figured woods, and there's zero tear-out with the Shelix. I can minimize tear out with the TP1300 by wetting the wood and taking light passes, but I'd spring for a Shelix head in a heartbeat.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Regards,

John

sounds kinda boring i will admit.

but this service it about 700', with a return.

up here, we have to have a two line water service. supply & return.

if there is no call for water (open faucet), the supply water is circulated back to the circulating water main. this prevents freezing in perma-frost.

anyways, return line is holding air. this is good right? yes, it is.

supply line, not so good. it won't hold 1 psi.

in other words, there's a big leak,...................or several little leaks.

i need a compressor that puts out more cfm so i can hear the leaks.

any useful ideas would be greatl;y appreciated.

Vince

after thought; gonna solder up 1" copper stubs with a cap and install them on the curb stops so i can rule out people touching the valves in each unit. :)
