One question I have is; why the giant warning about not installing the dust chute if not running a 4" dust collection system? So if I only have a 2-1/2" shop vac I should not install the dust chute?

Good question. I'd guess maybe fire hazard if the chute gets full and heat/spark off the motor? I haven't finished my DC system yet, so I dropped my ShopVac hose in the opening and it worked fine.

If you use the saw enough without cleaning it out I suppose the cabinet could fill up with sawdust eventually. I installed the dust chute without the nozzle outlet in place, that will go on when I get a DC system. In today's world LAWYERS rule, you know " Don't fold stroller up with child inside", warning, warning.

Thanks, I'm going to go ahead and install it as well. I plan on getting a DC system and from the sounds of it, it is going to be way easier to do it now than later.

FYI, I saw one today in the box at Mohegan Lake in front of the Tool section.

I would most definitely mount the 4" dust collection. A 4" to 2 1/2" reducer would probably work just fine with a good shop-vac. In fact that IS what I plan to do untill I get a 4" dust collection system. It would surely be better than nothing. Which is what most of us have had in the past the way it sounds with our old 60s-70s Craftsman contractor saws.

Re: Ridgid R4511 availability?
Whew....assembly is complete with the exception on the Herculift U-Bolt. It was missing from the package. I will have to call and have them send me one.
A few things:
1. Dust chute should be tighened down into the leg assembly prior to adding the lift sections. It is much easier to get at the screws.
2. Take the motor cover off and leave it off until after the granite wings are completely installed. Once again....much easier.
I will start the process of check blade alignment and fence alignment tomorrow.

Re: Ridgid R4511 availability?
They finally delivered my saw today. Yep, the metal frame was damaged. All 4 legs were slightly bent inward and a couple of vertical bars where bent in. The saw and frame were also sitting on the pallet on it's side (pic). Has anyone seen that happen? So far, the only damage that I see is on the back side of the metal cabinet. It looks like something hit it hard from the inside and made an outward dent (pic, about 5/16's long. Looks bigger in the picture) And boy is that puppy heavy.
Edit:
I found that assembling the base upside down helped me.

Not sure what could have caused a dent like that from the inside. Mine came on a wooden pallet as well but it was secured on all four corners with wooden cleats. I asked one fork lift operator if he had a hoisting engineers license, required by Mass law to operate any machine that lifts objects higher than 7 feet (used to be a mans head), they never heard of it. I hope they never have an accident whereas some one is badly injured. They may as well kiss whatever they own good by. Mass holds the operator responsible and libel without a license and is subject to fines and criminal complaints. I'm no law inforcement guy I just hate to see people get into serious trouble if it can be prevented.

If the damage is just superficial and happened at the factory, there should be no harm, but if it occurred during transit, something else could be wrong. Give it a good going over.
Good luck with the new saw.

Re: Ridgid R4511 availability?
As far as the dust collection is concerned it works great on mine. I simply picked up a DC 1 1/2hp 4" system from harbour freight on sale for $100 bucks and was off to the races. It came with 2 1/2" hose and 4" fittings but I rigged it to the back of the saw with duct tape for now till I buy some 4" hose.
