Default Mr Rooter - Rooterman- or -independent?

Planning on opening business again. Mr Rooter offers Oceanside Cal area @ 26 cents per person (275,000) population of area.(70k) Rooterman offers same area for 8750 . I plan on doing a few calls a day to stay busy between ages 61 - 70. I am also open to managing a crew, but would not do so just to make 50k a year-would rather work a truck than deal with 4 puppies in order to make 50k. What would be best way- one of the franchises or a independent name? Takin the first train out of Motown after the next buyout offer from Chrysler/Fiat

i would think independent as you don't want to babysit all the guys.

problem is you're moving into an unknown area and until you make a name for yourself in the community, you won't hit the 50k figure anytime soon.

oceanside is just outside of san diego. hope you can afford the rent

rick.

Go independent don't take on their baggage or expense. With the economy little guys have a better chance with less over head.

If it was a great deal someone else would have already jumped on it.

Franchises help with brand reconition. Play off of the good name of other local branches for quick establishment. Corp will keep you on track if you have a hard time sticking to your own rules. Like others mentioned, you do pay for their help.

And which Rooter franchise are you associated with?

Bottom line is if you have the work ethic and skill sets you will make it... If you don't a rooter franchise will not help you.

Birmingplumb: It sounds like you have experience running a plumbing biz, best decision I ever made was going independant (I'm in year 3 and doing OK). The overhead of a XXX rooter franchise is a saddle you don't need as a young business.

Just use "Rooter" in your name, you can do that for free to get the brand recognition Plumbingprofit is speaking of Though I would shy away from being associated with any XXX rooter franchise...

Bill

The increasingly all too rare and seldom seen Honest-Rooter?

I vote independent as well.
