Late last fall I had my forced air furnace(runs on propane) serviced and in the cleaning process the tech found 8 bats. My question is: I have a roof cap on a 5" class B chimney that has louvers in it, Can I add an aluminum wire lath covering to it without having any negative effects? (The chimney services the furnace and water heater. (Both Propane) TIA Jim

Pipestone, Class B is a double wall vent pipe. I really wouldnt see any issues with taking some light screen material or chicken wire of some type to cover it.

Thanks Dietz, I put an aluminum mesh around it and so far, at least, it is working fine. The mesh is about the same size as wire lath.
